Scouting report

LAC RB Joshua Kelley - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Las Vegas Raiders

In what looked like a pretty good matchup, Joshua Kelley once again failed to make the most of an expanded role in the absence of Austin Ekeler. Against the Vikings, Kelly carried the ball 11 times and saw one target. These opportunities brought him 12 rushing yards, one reception, and another five yards. Kelley managed just 2.2 Half PPR points, and finished as the RB62 last week, parking him at RB41 in points per game this season.

On paper, the Chargers matchup with the Raiders looks like a great one for a running back. The Raiders rank 27th in aFPA to running backs this season. The game not being played on paper, however, makes Kelley a very low-upside prospect, and he should be viewed as nothing above a low-end RB2 this week.

LAC RB Joshua Kelley - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Minnesota Vikings

Austin Ekeler ended up missing Week 2, leading to an extended role for Joshua Kelley against the Titans. Kelley logged a 26% opportunity share, but his 13 rush attempts only brought 39 scoreless yards, while he failed to haul in his only target. Kelley finished as the RB49 with a mere 3.9 Half PPR points.

With Ekeler looking like sitting out again, the Kelley redemption tour begins with a fairly decent matchup against the Vikings in Week 3. He should be considered a solid, if unspectacular, RB2 option.

LAC RB Joshua Kelley - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Tennessee Titans

Joshua Kelley provided a secondary weapon in the ground game for the Chargers in Week 1, carrying the ball 16 times for 91 yards and a touchdown. He offered little in the passing game, drawing a solitary target without a grab. Kelley's haul of 15.1 Half-PPR points saw him finish as the RB10 in that format.

If Ekeler is fit to play in Week 2, then Kelley has no real fantasy appeal against the Titans. If Ekeler is forced to sit out, then Kelley will certainly be worth considering. But with no real role in the passing game, and facing a stout Titans run defense, he'd be a low upside RB3 at best.

LAC RB Joshua Kelley - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs Los Angeles Rams

Joshua Kelley continues to see just enough work in the Chargers' offense to keep him interesting, but not enough to truly excite fantasy managers. Week 16 was a case in point. Kelley saw nine carries for 33 yards and caught his only target for nine yards.

The Rams rank 22nd in aFPA to running backs, but Austin Ekeler isn't ceding enough work to make Kelley worth a speculative start, even in deep leagues. Let him end the season the way he has spent most of it, either on your bench or your waiver wire.

LAC RB Joshua Kelley - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Indianapolis Colts

Joshua Kelley saw an extended workload in Week 15 while Austin Ekeler dealt with an injury he suffered during the game. Kelley tied a season-best with 10 carries, which he converted into 24 yards and a touchdown. He managed 9.6 Half PPR points and finished as the RB33.

The Colts rank 27th in aFPA to running backs this season, and the Chargers may consider working Kelley in a bit more in order to conserve their workhorse Ekeler. But he's still hard to project as having any real fantasy appeal this week.

LAC RB Joshua Kelley - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Tennessee Titans

Joshua Kelley continues to operate behind Austin Ekeler but doesn't get enough work to make him a standalone option in fantasy formats.

The Titans rank fourth in aFPA to running backs this season, and this is a case where if the primary running back goes down the backup is unlikely to step into a great situation. You should not consider Kelley a viable option in fantasy this week.

LAC RB Joshua Kelley - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs Miami Dolphins

Joshua Kelley continues to make a role for himself in the Chargers' offense. He played 43% of the snaps in Week 13, rushing seven times for 30 yards while failing to secure his only target. He finished as the RB54 in Half PPR formats.

Kelley is firmly behind Ekeler, so it's hard to get too excited about him for fantasy in any meaningful way. The Dolphins are not an easy out for running backs, ranking 18th in aFPA to the position. So unless you are absolutely desperate, you don't need to consider starting Kelley this week.
