ATL TE Jacob Tamme Week 1, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Tampa Bay
Jacob Tamme caught 59-of-82 targets for 657 yards and one touchdown in his first season with the Falcons last season. Tamme wound up being the second look in Matt Ryan's progressions last season after the team released receiver Leonard Hankerson. With the Falcons signing free agent Mohamed Sanu to a five-year, $32.5 million contract this offseason, Tamme will now be third or fourth in terms of targets in Atlanta's offense. Ranked as our TE22, avoid starting him in Week 1.

ATL TE Jacob Tamme - 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Jacob Tamme finished his first season in Atlanta with 59 catches for 657 yards and a touchdown. The yards were a new career high and the catches were the most he's produced since 2010. Tamme benefited from Leonard Hankerson's release mid-season and Roddy White falling out of favor with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, because he became Matt Ryan's second read behind top target Julio Jones. Even though the Falcons invested a third-round pick this year in Austin Hooper, Tamme remains the starter and should see the majority of targets at tight end again this season.

Fantasy Downside
Tamme's fantasy stock tumbled when the Falcons signed receiver Mohamed Sanu to a five-year, $32.5 million contract this offseason. Sanu now projects as the second read in Shanahan's offense and Tamme could also lose targets to second-year wideout Justin Hardy (who has emerged as Atlanta's top slot receiver). With the amount of targets Jones sees in the Falcons' offense, plus the addition of Sanu, Tamme is a poor bet this season to see another 80-plus targets in Atlanta.

2016 Bottom Line
Tamme ranks as our TE25 and should be viewed only as a streaming option during the season. He's nothing more than a TE2 given the additions of Sanu and Hooper, as well as the emergence of Hardy. Avoid from Tamme on draft night.

ATL TE Jacob Tamme - Week 17, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. New Orleans
Jacob Tamme caught all four of his targets for 29 yards in the Falcons' upset victory over the Panthers in Week 16. An afterthought in Atlanta's offense, Tamme isn't on the fantasy radar in Week 17. Ranked as our TE21, avoid him in all formats this Sunday.

ATL TE Jacob Tamme - Week 16, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Carolina
Jacob Tamme failed to record a catch in the Falcons Week 15 win over the Jaguars. He was only targeted once as Atlanta's game plan understandably featured Devonta Freeman and Julio Jones. Ranked as our TE21 for Week 16, avoid Tamme for his matchup against the Panthers this Sunday.

ATL TE Jacob Tamme - Week 15, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Jacksonville
Jacob Tamme caught 4-of-5 targets for 26 yards in the Falcons Week 14 loss to the Panthers. When Leonard Hankerson was placed on injured reserve (and then subsequently released), the thought was that Tamme would benefit as Matt Ryan's second option in the passing game behind Julio Jones. But Tamme has posted back-to-back 26-yard performances over the past two weeks and is more of a TE2 than a low-end TE1. For owners desperate at tight end, Tamme does have a great matchup versus the Jaguars, who own the No. 31-ranked fantasy defense versus tight ends this week. But Tamme ranks as our TE14 for Week 15 so consider him more of a boom-or-bust option that will likely need to find the end zone to pay out in fantasy.

ATL TE Jacob Tamme - Week 14, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Carolina
Jacob Tamme was targeted just four times in the Falcons Week 13 loss to the Bucs. He caught three of those four targets for 26 yards and was overthrown by Matt Ryan on what would have been a long gain. Tamme emerged as a TE1 last week when Leonard Hankerson was placed on season-ending injured reserve. Tamme had been seeing the second-most targets behind Julio Jones with Hank out, but Devonta Freeman saw 11 targets last week in Tampa as Ryan kept checking down. Tamme ranks as our TE13 for Week 14 and thus, is a borderline TE1 in deeper leagues. Avoid him if you can.

ATL TE Jacob Tamme - Week 13, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Tampa Bay
Jacob Tamme caught 5-of-6 targets for 69 yards in the Falcons' Week 12 loss to the Vikings. He was also open for a split-second in the back of the end zone when Matt Ryan threw late and was intercepted by a Minnesota defender. With Leonard Hankerson expected to miss another game, Tamme is a streaming option this weekend. He consistently is the player that benefits the most when Hankerson is out, as Ryan looks Tamme's way after Julio Jones. The Bucs own the No. 20-ranked defense versus tight ends this season so if you're in need of a flier this week, Tamme ranks as our TE10 for Week 13.
