Saints WR Michael Thomas missed Sunday's practice with a hamstring injury.

HC Dennis Allen called it "a little bit of a hamstring issue", but it's still a little concerning any time we hear about an injury with Thomas, who missed all of 2021 with an ankle injury. He has been able to practice but has not played in a game at all yet this preseason and you probably can assume he will not play in the final preseason game against the Chargers. We are three weeks away from the Saints' regular-season opener against the Falcons. Thomas has holding an ADP of about 55, going off as WR27 on Underdog. Jarvis Landry and rookie Chris Olave would take on more work if Thomas misses any time.

Then added: "When the ball kicks off for real, Michael Thomas is going to be ready to go, and we're excited about that."

The now 29-year-old Thomas continues to rehab the injured ankle that forced him to miss the entire 2021 season and most of the previous season. Beat writer Nick Underhill says that in camp Thomas looks like he did in 2019. Drafting Thomas requires a leap of faith, but he’s going off the board as the WR29 in the sixth round, which seems like a steal for a player who racked up 149 catches for 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns as recently as 2019. However, he also carries a lot of risk since he hasn’t played football since December of 2020 and is getting a little long in the tooth.

Saints WR Michael Thomas took part in team drills Saturday for the first time this year.

It's been a long time coming for the Saints wide receiver, who didn't play at all in 2021 and a good portion of 2020 with an ankle injury. But Thomas finally looks like he's ready to get back into action and had a catch on his first play of 11-on-11. The Saints have been gradually increasing Thomas' workload and there are still about four weeks until New Orleans' opener September 11 against the Falcons. Thomas is WR31 on Underdog with an ADP of 65. If healthy, Thomas could get back to his old ways. It already seems like Jameis Winston will trust Thomas quite a bit this season, so keep an eye on Thomas the rest of the preseason.

Rapoport reiterated that he looks "aweseome" which coincides with what Saints reporter Nick Underhill has been repeating through camp thus far.

So much for getting Michael Thomas in the 7th/8th round anymore. Thomas has likely been a steal throughout all of spring and summer, and if he truly is back to his old self, he will help buoy this entire offense. The last time Jameis Winston had two reliable wide receivers and the offense all to himself (2019) he threw for 5,000+ yards on his way to finishing as the overall QB2.

Michael Thomas activated off PUP.

It was just a video posted of Thomas catching a pass. We reported Tuesday the Saints didn't see Thomas being on the PUP list very long and it turns out he's activated today.

Saints GM Mickey Loomis on Michael Thomas: "I don't expect him to be on (PUP) very long."

Loomis added Thomas is just not quite ready to be full go yet, according to the tweet. Terrell would say in another tweet this is not considered a setback, and Loomis said, basically, Thomas is where the team wants him to be.

In a statement released on social media, Saints WR Michael Thomas said he will not be ready to play this season due to ankle injuries. "To my displeasure, I will not be able to make it back in time for this season but will do everything in my power to get back to the player I have always been."

It is safe to drop Thomas if you were holding out hope for him to play in 2021.

Saints WR Michael Thomas is dealing with a new ankle issue according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. The issue necessitated an appointment with an ankle specialist and his timetable to return is still unknown.

Thomas could be looking at a lost season. Tre'Quan Smith, Marquez Callaway, and Deonte Harris will continue to lead the Saints receiving corps.

Thomas can come off the PUP list now, as we reported earlier today, but that doesn't look likely with his ankle injury. We could be looking at more like Week 9 or Week 10, based on Rapoport saying "not this week or next week." When he comes back, Thomas should be a huge target in an offense that's missing their stud WR1.

Players that have been on the PUP list are now eligible to return to practice and begin playing as soon as this week.

Thomas is eligible to return to practice in Week 7 for the first time since having major ankle surgery in June. He's just the type of big-play weapon QB Jameis Winston needs as the team comes off their bye week. There should be more updates on Thomas as the week goes on.
