The MRI results for backup Ronnie Rivers were not as promising. He has a Grade 3 PCL sprain and is out 4-5 weeks.

The story said an IR stint is probably likely for Rivers. As we stated in an earlier report, the Rams are possibly looking at an RB group of Freeman and Evans for at least Week 7.

An MRI today revealed that Rams’ RB Kyren Williams has a sprained ankle that is expected to sideline him for Sunday’s game vs. the Steelers.

Rivers is also expected to miss Week 7 with a PCL sprain, so the Rams are likely looking to Freeman and Evans to take over the backfield. Williams injury is not considered long-term, according to Schefter and his source.

Williams, who rushed for 158 yards yesterday, suffered an ankle injury. He left without a boot but is getting an MRI, according to Rapoport. Rivers is believed to have a PCL sprain that could keep him out a few weeks and he's also getting an MRI, Rapoport said. HC Sean McVay has already said he doesn't believe Williams' ankle injury is serious, but his status for Week 7 remains in doubt as of now. Evans and Freeman are next up and it's likely at least one of them will see some time, assuming Rivers can't play in Week 7.

If Williams is still on your wire, he likely won't be there for long. Williams played a majority of the snaps, and again played well scoring two more TDs, while Rivers ended up with one catch for four yards. It remains to be seen if Akers will play for the Rams again but as the story said, it's looking like his time in LA is over.

Texans currently have a running back room of Dameon Pierce, Rex Burkhead, and Dare Ogunbowale.

The team will have to make at least one more move for a back, one would think. Those who follow the team said Freeman outplayed Mack in camp and they just signed Mack back to the practice squad today. Ogunbowale could be a sneaky RB on the Texans should he survive and remain the team's RB3. Pierce, the rookie, looks to have a clear path as the RB1 this season.

Pierce is poised to take over the lead role for the Texans with Burkhead the likely compliment. Those who follow the team said Freeman just had a better camp than Mack, so Mack appears buried on the depth chart for now.

The point was it doesn't change Pierce possible RB1 status because Mack got out-played by Royce Freeman this preseason. The tweet went on to say what remains to be seen is how much Burkhead plays on passing downs when the Texans are trailing.

RB Marlon Mack signed with Houston in the offseason and projects to be near the top of the running back depth chart alongside Rex Burkhead. He was brought in because of his success in five seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. "Marlon has been a productive player in the league and we look at his best years he's had," Smith said after Wednesday's OTA. "Sometimes you need a change, change of scenery, a new team."

"I know he's fit in well with our group," Smith said. "We feel like we have a plan for him and we like the running back position, not just him."

Mack has more production than any back not named Burkhead on the Texans roster and has been positively boasted by Lovie Smith. That is Smith's M.O. and is not a coach that pulls punches when lifting his players. Mack can be an interesting late-round pick with 15-carry upside on a team looking for consistency at the running back position.

With RB Rex Burkhead (hip) unable to play Week 15, Texans HC David Culley told reporters Wednesday that David Johnson and Royce Freeman will be the lead backs Week 15.

Johnson missed Week 14 because of COVID, so it is unknown how much if at all the virus changes his practice time ahead of Week 15. Johnson and Freeman are dart throw RBs this weekend.

Freeman gives the Panthers valuable veteran insurance behind Christian McCaffrey, as they only had rookie Chuba Hubbard on the 53-man roster following cut-down day. The addition of Freeman ends the short-lived Hubbard handcuff hype, as the rookie and the veteran will likely form a committee if CMC misses any games this season.
