BUF RB Travaris Cadet - 2018 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Travaris Cadet is third on the depth chart for the Bills, but could move up if something happens in the legal situation with LeSean McCoy. The veteran has managed to stick around the NFL for nine seasons, so he is considered an asset to teams he plays for—especially in the passing game, where he has 118 career receptions.

Fantasy Downside

Cadet has 49 career carries in the NFL and has served mostly as a third-down back and special teams player. There is a chance he could not make the roster.

2018 Bottom Line

Cadet has zero fantasy value unless he establishes himself as the regular third-down back—even then he might be considered nothing more than a depth option in a PPR league.

NO RB Travaris Cadet - 2017 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Travaris Cadet set career-highs in catches (40) and touchdowns (4) last season in his return to New Orleans. While he only carried the ball four times for 19 yards, he has carved out a pass-catching role in the Saints' dynamic offense.

Fantasy Downside

Cadet isn't expected to make the Saints' 53-man roster, so we can start there. Mark Ingram is entrenched as the team's No. 1 back, they signed Adrian Peterson, and also drafted Alvin Kamara in the third round. There's simply no room for Cadet, making it likely he wind ups on another team before the start of the season.

2017 Bottom Line

Cadet has value as a pass-catcher out of the backfield but that value won't come as a Saint. Ranked as our RB93 heading into the season, it's safe to leave Cadet off your draft board.

NO RB Travaris Cadet - Week 8, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Seattle
Travaris Cadet caught two-of-four targets for seven yards in the Saints Week 7 loss to the Chiefs. Cadet hasn't topped 32 yards receiving this season, however, and is nothing more than a handcuff for Mark Ingram owners. He ranks as our RB40 for Week 8 and can be avoided for the Saints matchup with the Seahawks on Sunday.

NO RB Travaris Cadet - Week 6, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Carolina
Travaris Cadet was held off the stat sheet in the Saints Week 4 win over the Chargers. Mark Ingram, Tim Hightower, John Kuhn, Daniel Lasco and even Tommylee Lewis all had rushing attempts, but Cadet was barely used in the game. In fact, he played on just four-of-73 offensive plays for New Orleans. View Cadet as a handcuff to Ingram.

NO RB Travaris Cadet - Week 4, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at San Diego
Travaris Cadet caught all six of his targets for 32 yards in the Saints' 45-32 loss to the Falcons in Week 3. He saw just as many targets as Ingram, who remains the workhorse back in New Orleans. Ranked as our RB44 for Week 4, view Cadet as a handcuff to Ingram in PPR formats.

NO RB Travaris Cadet - Week 3, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Atlanta
Travaris Cadet was targeted just three times in the Saints' Week 2 loss to the Giants, catching two passes for 17 yards. Mark Ingram owners will be happy to know that Ingram saw more targets (4) than Cadet (3) after the situation was reversed in Week 1. But ultimately it's still unclear at this point what role Ingram and Cadet will play in the Saints' passing game moving forward. For now, Cadet is nothing more than a handcuff for Ingram and should remain on your bench or waiver wire. He ranks as our RB46 for the Saints' Week 3 matchup with the Falcons on Monday night.

NO RB Travaris Cadet - Week 2, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at New York Giants
Travaris Cadet turned seven targets into three catches for 14 yards and a touchdown in the Saints Week 1 loss to the Raiders. Those seven targets were more than the two targets that Mark Ingram saw in the passing game, so perhaps at some point this season Cadet will have value in PPR formats. For now though, keep Cadet on your bench as he ranks as our RB54 for Week 2 in PPR.

NO RB Travaris Cadet - 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
The Saints claimed Travaris Cadet off waivers in December and he was immediately more productive than C.J. Spiller as the team’s passing-down back. New Orleans re-signed Cadet to a one-year deal in March, so they clearly value him enough to keep him around. If Spiller is released or there’s a significant injury in the Saints backfield, Cadet would have some appeal in PPR leagues as a pure pass-catcher.

Fantasy Downside
Heading into training camp, Cadet is behind Mark Ingram, Tim Hightower and C.J. Spiller on the Saints running back depth chart. He did total 83 yards against the Falcons in Week 17, with most of that production coming from six catches and 77 yards in the passing game. But Ingram also didn’t play in that game, so Cadet’s role was expanded for that week. Unless Ingram is injured and Cadet leap-frogs Spiller to become the Saints primary passing-down back, there just won’t be enough opportunities for the 27-year-old.

2016 Bottom Line
Cadet ranks as our RB92 and is going undrafted in both 10 and 12-team leagues. Feel free to bypass Cadet in your draft, but if you’re in a PPR league, know that he could be in store for a bigger role in the passing game if Ingram and/or Spiller fall victim to injury. Thus, he could be a desperate streaming option down the road.

NO RB Travaris Cadet - Week 17, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Atlanta
Travaris Cadet caught 3-of-5 targets for 69 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' Week 16 win over the Jaguars. After two Jacksonville defenders ran into each other, Cadet found himself wide open on his 44-yard touchdown reception. With C.J. Spiller out for the season, Cadet will once again carve out a role in passing situations this Sunday versus the Falcons. That said, he won't see nearly enough volume to earn a start in either standard or DFS leagues this week. Cadet ranks as our RB46 for Week 17.
