BAL RB Kenneth Dixon - Week 18 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wildcard Round vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Kenneth Dixon had some big plays against the Browns, helping him gain 117 yards on 12 carries in the season finale. Dixon averages 11 touches per game this year, making him a quality change-of-pace option in deeper fantasy leagues. His upside is limited by a crowded backfield however, making him risky to trust in any given week.

Dixon managed only 48 yards from scrimmage against the Chargers just two weeks ago, but Los Angeles allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to opposing running backs this year, giving him a little upside in deep formats. In most leagues however, with quality running backs available throughout the wildcard round, Dixon should be considered a lower-tier option. His workload is too uncertain to bank on.

Week 17 vs. Cleveland Browns

Kenneth Dixon keeps getting change-of-pace work behind Gus Edwards, but he hasn’t done a lot with his opportunities yet. Dixon had eight carries and two receptions last week against the Chargers, finishing with 48 total yards from scrimmage. He has upside in any given week due to the workload he gets, but he’s far more of a desperation option in deep leagues than a viable starter. Owners should look elsewhere if possible.

BAL RB Kenneth Dixon - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Los Angeles Chargers

Kenneth Dixon continued in his complementary role to Gus Edwards last week, carrying the ball 11 times for 48 yards. He added a two-yard reception as well. Dixon will get the occasional goal-line touch and will have his opportunities to contribute in the passing game, but his production will likely be too inconsistent to rely on week-to-week and fantasy owners should look elsewhere if possible.

BAL RB Kenneth Dixon - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Kenneth Dixon had 80 yards and a touchdown last week against the Chiefs on eight carries and a reception. He was clearly a change-of-pace option behind Gus Edwards, but was productive enough that his workload may increase if he continues to be effective. Dixon is too risky to trust right now, but he has some deep-league upside in a nice matchup this week with the Buccaneers. Fantasy owners needing a hope and a prayer might look to Dixon. Another nine touches this week in a nice matchup could make him a viable RB3 in deep leagues.

BAL RB Kenneth Dixon - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Kansas City Chiefs

Fresh off injured reserve, Kenneth Dixon played a supplemental role against the Falcons last week with eight carries and one reception for 43 total yards from scrimmage. While it’s good to see him healthy and active, Dixon is behind Gus Edwards in the running game and Ty Montgomery in the passing game, making it unlikely he puts up consistent fantasy points. He should stay on waivers in all leagues.

BAL RB Kenneth Dixon - 2018 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Before missing last season, Kenneth Dixon had some promising moments as a rookie in 2016. Drafted in the fourth round, Dixon averaged 4.3 yards on 88 carries and caught 30 passes in his first year in the league. He looked like a talented every-down runner in college, and if he can stay healthy and keep his nose clean off the field, he’ll be given a chance to compete for playing time.

Fantasy Downside

Coming off a lost season due to injury and suspension reasons, it’s fair to be concerned about Dixon’s reliability. Additionally, he’ll be fighting an uphill battle for playing time after starter Alex Collins averaged 4.6 yards per carry last season. Javorius Allen is still hanging around as well, and he may get the bulk of the work on passing downs. If Collins and Allen play well early on, it might be a long season on the bench for Dixon.

2018 Bottom Line

Dixon is an interesting option as a handcuff to Collins or as a late-round flier in deep leagues. He definitely has talent, but his injury history and the crowded depth chart in Baltimore make it difficult to trust him. At the very least, he’ll be a player worth monitoring as the season progresses for a potential playing time increase. Until we see him make the leap it’s hard to recommend rostering him.

BAL RB Kenneth Dixon - Week 17, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Cincinnati

I’d like to be all in on Kenneth Dixon, but he continues to share work with Terrance West, which is hurting the fantasy value of both players. Dixon had 12 carries and a reception last week against the Steelers, but wound up with only 58 total yards on the day, while West finished with 13 total touches.

This week, expect another day of splitting time for the Baltimore running back duo, with Dixon likely to end up in that 8-12 touches range against a Bengals defense that ranks 22nd in rushing yards allowed this season. He has some potential as a low-end RB3 in deep leagues, but fantasy owners should probably look elsewhere for a player with more upside.

BAL RB Kenneth Dixon - Week 16, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Pittsburgh

Kenneth Dixon had only nine carries for 36 yards last week against Philadelphia, but he managed to score a touchdown. Dixon’s workload has been inconsistent since returning from injury, but he remains an active part of the offense. Expect him to continue to share time with Terrance West throughout the rest of the season.

This week, Dixon faces a Steeler defense that ranks fifth in rushing yards allowed per game. With a questionable workload, Dixon is a risky option for fantasy owners to count on in the playoffs, but if he continues to get 8-12 touches, he has some low-end RB3 potential in large leagues.

BAL RB Kenneth Dixon - Week 15, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Philadelphia

Kenneth Dixon had only 39 yards rushing on Monday night against New England, but he added eight receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown in the passing game. Additionally, Dixon was on the field for 60% of the team’s offensive snaps compared to only 20% to Terrance West, which is a great sign for Dixon’s future workload.

This week, Dixon faces a very average Philadelphia run defense that ranks 15th in the league with 4.1 yards per attempt allowed to opposing offenses this season. Dixon has some risk because West is still lurking around, but if he can get 19 touches again, then he’ll be worth low-end RB2 or Flex consideration, especially in PPR formats.

BAL RB Kenneth Dixon - Week 14, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. New England

Kenneth Dixon had only six carries against the Dolphins last week, but had 56 yards on the ground and added 21 yards receiving on four receptions. He continues to be an active part of the offense, even if he’s still splitting time with Terrance West.

This week, Dixon will face a formidable Patriots defense that is tied for third in the league with only six rushing touchdowns allowed this year. Expect another dozen or so touches for the rookie, making him fantasy viable in only deep leagues, with a little bonus in PPR formats.
