Week 6 vs. New England Patriots
Jimmy Garoppolo struggled in the win over the Packers on Monday night, throwing for 208 yards, a touchdown, and a pick. He’s been turnover prone this year, with a 6/7 TD/Int ratio through five games.
This week, Garoppolo has a tough matchup against his former team. The Patriots defense ranks 4th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. With two struggling offenses, this could be a low-scoring, disappointing affair for both passing games. If you can look elsewhere this week, keep Jimmy on the bench or on waivers.
Week 5 vs. Green Bay Packers
Jimmy Garoppolo missed last week in concussion protocol, but he’s on track to play in Week 5. He’s been uneven at best this year, with five touchdowns in three games to go with six interceptions and a fumble. Still, he’s averaging 236.3 passing yards per game and he has excellent weapons around him.
Garoppolo has a nice matchup this week against the Packers. Green Bay ranks 23rd in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. He’s not going to be a player to consider in leagues where you start one quarterback, but in SuperFlex or 2QB formats, he might be worth gambling on this week, assuming he gets through concussion protocol.
Week 4 at Los Angeles Chargers
Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 324 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a loss to the Steelers last week. However, he also threw three interceptions. He now has six interceptions on the year, compared to just five touchdown passes. To be fair, the Broncos, Bills, and Steelers aren’t the easiest teams to face to start a season on a new team, but the turnovers have to be concerning for Raiders fans.
This week, Garoppolo faces a Chargers defense that ranks 29th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. The Chargers have been involved in shootouts so far this season, and the Raiders haven’t shown any reluctance to let Garoppolo throw the ball when needed. As such, he could be a solid streaming option for needy fantasy managers. Watch his status, however, as he’s currently questionable in concussion protocol. Be ready with a backup option in case he’s a late scratch.
Update: Garoppolo will sit this week, so fire up your backup plan. Aidan O'Connell becomes a risky, but interesting option in a nice matchup. Best to steer clear of the Raiders' quarterback situation this week though.
Week 3 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 185 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions last week in a blowout loss to the Bills. With a lopsided score, you’d like to see more fantasy production from the passing game of the losing team, but the Raiders really struggled past the first quarter to get anything going.
This week, things won’t get any easier for Garoppolo against the fearsome Pittsburgh pass rush. The Steelers forced a pick-six and three fumbles against the Browns on Monday night and racked up a ridiculous six sacks. Sit Garoppolo this week in a tough matchup.
Week 13 vs. Miami Dolphins
Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 222 yards and a touchdown in an effective, but low-scoring victory over the Saints last week. He has the 49ers on a four-game win streak right now and has eight touchdowns - including one rushing - and zero interceptions in that span.
Garoppolo has solid streaming ability this week in a nice matchup. The Dolphins rank 27th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks, and they have a potent offense that should keep the 49ers throwing the ball to keep up. We have Garoppolo just outside QB1 territory, but he has upside.
Week 12 vs. New Orleans Saints
Jimmy Garoppolo now has 15 touchdowns and four interceptions on the season, including eight and one since the 49ers acquired Christian McCaffrey four games ago. The offense has been humming, and Garoppolo crushed Arizona on Monday night to the tune of four touchdowns.
This week, Garoppolo faces a Saints defense that ranks 18th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. Expect him to continue to be a quality streaming option, and we have him ranked as a fringe QB1 this week.
Week 11 at Arizona Cardinals
Jimmy Garoppolo had 240 yards passing last week, adding a rushing touchdown to his totals and turning in a quality fantasy day overall. Garoppolo has been a steady, albeit unspectacular option lately, and the 49ers offense has looked lively with Christian McCaffrey in the mix. Garoppolo also benefits from having a healthy group of pass catchers right now, something that’s been rare during his tenure in San Francisco.
This week, Garoppolo is a solid streaming option once again with a nice matchup against the Cardinals. Arizona ranks 26th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks and we expect fringe QB1 numbers from Garoppolo as a result. Start him as a streamer, especially if you have Kyler Murray and need some Monday night insurance.
Week 10 vs. Los Angeles Chargers
Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 235 yards and a pair of touchdowns against the Rams before the bye last week. In the two weeks he’s had with Christian McCaffrey in the offense, Garoppolo has had 538 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Against the Rams, he completed 84% of his passes, and he should have Deebo Samuel back this week.
This week, Garoppolo faces a Chargers defense that ranks 11th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. The Chargers have struggled to get pressure on the quarterback since losing Joey Bosa to injury. We have Garoppolo ranked as a QB1 option this week and he’s the top streaming option in our column this week. Start him.
Week 8 at Los Angeles Rams
Jimmy Garoppolo had a decent game against the Chiefs last week, despite the lopsided outcome. He finished with 303 yards, two touchdowns, and a pick in a losing effort. Garoppolo isn’t known for prolific passing, but he now has three straight games with multiple touchdown passes and in a season where quarterbacks are a bit shaky week-to-week, he’s been a surprisingly viable streamer.
This week, Garoppolo has a tough matchup against Aaron Donald and the Rams. The Los Angeles defense ranks sixth in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks, and held Garoppolo to 239 yards and a lone touchdown pass back in Week 4 – though that was admittedly impacted by game script, as the 49ers controlled the game throughout. Expect a boost from the addition of Christian McCaffrey for a full week of practice, and we have Garoppolo ranked right in quality streaming territory this week.
Week 7 vs. Kansas City Chiefs
Jimmy Garoppolo didn’t get the win for the 49ers last week against the Falcons, but he did turn in a decent enough fantasy day for managers who streamed him. He threw a pair of interceptions, but also threw for two touchdowns and 296 yards. Garoppolo isn’t often a solid fantasy option, but he can be useful for streaming purposes in the right matchups.
This week, Garoppolo can once again be considered a viable option if you have Jalen Hurts or Josh Allen on bye. The Chiefs rank 29th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks this season and the 49ers may need to throw to keep up with the Kansas City offense. We have him ranked as a solid QB2 option this week.
