JAX TE Geoff Swaim - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Cincinnati Bengals
In the loss to the Saints at home last Sunday, Geoff Swaim finished with just a five-yard catch. Even without James O’Shaugnessy Swaim just isn’t a big enough part of the Jaguars offense for him to be wasting a fantasy roster spot.

JAX TE Geoff Swaim - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. New Orleans Saints
With James O’Shaughnessy lost for the season with a torn ACL, Geoff Swaim will see more targets as the Jaguars starting TE. So far this season the former Cowboy has recorded 12 receptions for 60 yards, with seven of those grabs coming in the first two weeks. In five NFL seasons, Swaim has just one TD and likely won’t be in the end zone on Sunday. There has to be a better option for your fantasy TE.

JAX TE Geoff Swaim - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Tennessee Titans
Last week in the loss to the Texans, Geoff Swaim caught three passes for 14 yards. He’s registered seven receptions in his first two games but for just 31 yards. Swaim and fellow TE James O’Shaughnessy will remain part of the Jags passing game, but neither one is worthy of a fantasy roster spot.

JAX TE Geoff Swaim - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Houston Texans
In his first game with Jacksonville, Geoff Swaim received four targets from Jacksonville QBs, resulting in four catches for 17 yards. Fellow TE James O’Shaughnessy also caught four passes for 15 more yards than Swaim. Even though the Jags passers threw for 350 yards the TEs were not a big part of the attack. There has to be better options for you to start over Swaim.

JAX TE Geoff Swaim - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Kansas City Chiefs
After playing in Dallas his first four seasons, Geoff Swaim will be the Jaguars starting TE to open the season. He’s only seen action in 37 career games, totaling 35 receptions and one score. He could see a handful of targets from Nick Foles in Week 1, but there are plenty of other TEs that should be in your starting lineup ahead of Swaim.

JAX TE Geoff Swaim - 2019 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Following the most prolific season of his Cowboys career, Geoff Swaim signed with the Jaguars. Swaim was the 246th pick in the 2015 NFL draft by Dallas. In four years with the Cowboys, he appeared in 37 games tallying 35 receptions, 336 yards and one touchdown. His best statistical season came last year when he played and started nine games. He finished with 26 receptions for 242 yards and a touchdown before fracturing a bone in his wrist in the team's 22-19 win over Atlanta on Nov. 18. He opens training camp as the early favorite for the starting tight end role in Jacksonville.

Fantasy Downside
While he's the early favorite, Swaim is far from a lock to hold that role with rookie Josh Oliver boasting better receiving skills (albeit, with the lack of experience that goes hand in hand with being a first-year player). The Jaguars also have James O'Shaughnessy and Ben Koyack, who will be competing for snaps at the position.

2019 Bottom Line
Offensive coordinator John DeFilippo has been complimentary of Swaim and as Fansided.com's David Levin pointed out, the fact that Jacksonville doesn't have a true fullback means the team will use the tight ends more in different offensive sets. That Swaim is best known as a blocker works in his favor in that case. It doesn't necessarily make him fantasy relevant, but don't rule him out as a possible streaming option.

DAL TE Geoff Swaim - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Washington Redskins

Geoff Swaim had four catches for 24 yards last week against Atlanta. This is about what you can expect from Swain each week. He is not a big part of the offense and the numbers reflect that.

The Redskins have been very good against tight ends this season and that makes Swaim irrelevant in Week 12. Keep him on the bench.

DAL TE Geoff Swaim - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Tennessee Titans

Geoff Swaim continues to average two or three catches per game and only has one touchdown this season. The Cowboys had a luxury with Jason Witten at tight end the past decade, but Swaim has not been able to become that type of security blanket for Dak Prescott.

It will be a tough matchup against Tennessee who is second in aFPA to tight ends. Keep Swaim on the bench as a TE2 for Week 9.

DAL TE Geoff Swaim - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Washington Redskins

After showing some signs of life the past couple weeks, Geoff Swaim was the recipient of two catches for 21 yards. It was the only two times he was targeted in the game.

Swaim will face the Redskins who are fifth in aFPA to tight ends. Even with the step back last week, we feel Swaim will have more impact on the Cowboys season as the season progresses, For Week 7, keep him on the bench as a solid TE2.

DAL TE Geoff Swaim - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Geoff Swaim has had 11 receptions for 141 yards over the last three weeks which makes him the most successful pass catcher on Dallas not named Ezekiel Elliot. Still, the Cowboys are struggling in the passing game and there isn't much value for Swaim. He is getting five targets per game over the last three weeks, but that's isn't enough to rank him any higher than a low-end TE2. Keep Swaim on the bench for Week 6.
