PIT WR Eli Rogers - 2017 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Eli Rogers will be the slot receiver on most occasions in an offense that features Le'Veon Bell, Antonio Brown, and Martavis Bryant. He's going to see a lot of single coverage. He's also in line to possibly be the Steelers' punt returner this season, a job that has long been held by Brown.

Fantasy Downside

Rogers will clearly be the No. 4 or No. 5 receiver in this offense.

2017 Bottom Line

The problem with Rogers is he's almost strictly viewed as a slot receiver. If Brown or Bryant were injured, he wouldn't necessarily step into a more prominent role. In fact, Bell does a lot of the same work as Rogers from the slot. He might be hard-pressed to get more than the 66 targets he had last season with Bryant out because of a suspension. He is worth late-round consideration only.

PIT WR Eli Rogers - Week 20, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

AFC Championship at New England
Rogers saw a healthy seven targets last week, but had just five catches for 27 yards. He also just missed on a touchdown catch in the game that would have given him a solid day. Rogers was benched earlier this season in the previous meeting against the Patriots for being late (who said Mike Tomlin doesn't have any discipline?). Rogers could be worth a flier in PPR leagues this week as a flex play or low-end No. 3 receiver.

PIT WR Eli Rogers - Week 19, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Divisional Round at Kansas City
Eli Rogers saw just one target last week, as the Steelers put the ball in the air just 18 times (with Antonio Brown seeing nine targets). But the Steelers feel Rogers is a matchup issue underneath for most teams, and given the weather forecast of rain, Rogers could thrive this week in the short passing game. He'll be more effective in PPR leagues, but he's still likely a better flex play than anything else.

PIT WR Eli Rogers - Week 18, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wild Card Round vs. Miami
After catching six passes for 61 yards last week, Rogers finished the season with 75, 84 and 61 yards receiving in the final three weeks. I predicted in the preseason he would catch 50 passes this season and he finished with 48 despite disappearing early on. He's earned the trust of Ben Roethlisberger and gets a ton of one-on-one matchups because of the presence of Le'Veon Bell and Antonio Brown. Tight end Ladarius Green's return this week would hurt his value, but he should catch four or five passes for at least 40 yards in this game.

PIT WR Eli Rogers - Week 17, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Cleveland
Rogers had four catches for 84 yards last week and will get more of an opportunity to shine this week with Antonio Brown sitting out. Rogers has nine catches for 154 yards and a touchdown in the past two weeks and wants to prove he's more than just a slot receiver. But he'll also have Landry Jones playing QB this week rather than Ben Roethlisberger. Somebody has to catch the ball this week and Rogers might be Pittsburgh's best option. He's a No. 3 option this week in PPR leagues.

PIT WR Eli Rogers - Week 16, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Baltimore
With Ladarius Green expected to sit this one out, look for Rogers to pick up some of the slack working the middle of the field. He had a line of 5-75-1 last week and one of 6-103-0 in the first meeting with Baltimore, with all of those catches coming in the fourth quarter. The Steelers will look to start fast and that will include working the ball to Rogers in the slot. He's a nice safe start as a flex option this week and could have some upside potential, especially in PPR leagues.

PIT WR Eli Rogers - Week 14, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Buffalo
Rogers had just one reception for 18 yards - on third-and-17 - but also had another reception called back because of penalty and was targeted on a downfield post on Ben Roethlisberger's lone interception last week. The emergence of Ladarius Green hurt's Rogers' value, which is still higher in PPR leagues. He's not worth starting.

PIT WR Eli Rogers - Week 13, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Giants
Rogers had just two receptions last week, but they went for 36 yards and were on his only two targets of the game. The Steelers will throw the ball more this week, but don't be surprised to see Sammie Coates worked back into the equation as the No. 2 target. He had three targets last week. Rogers will get some looks, but shouldn't be used as anything more than a flex.

PIT WR Eli Rogers - Week 12, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Indianapolis
Rogers caught four of the five passes thrown his way last week but for just 20 yards. He's the move-the-chains target in the Steelers offense and should see a decent amount of work in that capacity this week. But he and Ben Roethlisberger have missed on some deeper passes in each of the past two games. Rogers is a risky play, however, as anything more than a flex option.

PIT WR Eli Rogers - Week 11, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Cleveland
Rogers followed up his first 100-yard game in Week 9 with a 4-42-1 line, which isn't terrible but might not have been what his owners were looking for. The touchdown, his second this season, sure helped. It is expected to be windy in Cleveland Sunday, which could mean more of a short passing game. That would benefit Rogers directly, at least when the Steelers are going into the wind. He should be a decent No. 3 receiver or flex play in all formats against a soft Cleveland defense.
