MIA TE Dwayne Allen - 2019 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
The Dolphins brought in Allen this season, and he has a chance for some playing time on this offense. He had a few good seasons with the Colts, including an eight-touchdown season.

Fantasy Downside
Allen is more of a blocking tight end than a receiving tight end, and hasn’t been too valuable in the fantasy world as of late. He’s spent the last two seasons with the Patriots where he’s caught 13 passes in 29 games.

2019 Bottom Line
Allen might catch a few touchdowns here and there, but nothing reliable enough to warrant fantasy consideration. Mike Gesicki is the tight end to own in Miami, and even he isn’t a great choice.

Super Bowl vs. Philadelphia Eagles

What matters in this different one-game format is not so much how many points we project each player for but how much each player costs per point. In FanDuel's half-point PPR format, here's how we value the tight ends, strictly in terms of dollar/FanDuel point: Rob Gronkowski>Zach Ertz>Trey Burton>Dwayne Allen.

As for DraftKings' full PPR scoring, here's how we value the tight ends in terms of dollar/DraftKings point: Zach Ertz>Trey Burton>Rob Gronkowski>Dwayne Allen.

Week 14 at Miami Dolphins

We've already seen one game without Rob Gronkowski this season, and it was not pretty for the Patriots tight ends. Dwayne Allen is not a streaming TE option for Week 14.

NE TE Dwayne Allen - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

With Rob Gronkowski out, consider Dwayne Allen a TE2 for Thursday Night Football. He's a gamble, considering he's yet to catch a pass from Tom Brady, but he's been on the field far more than Jacob Hollister this season. If you're taking a chance on a Patriots TE this week, it's Allen.

Week 4 vs. Carolina Panthers

Dwayne Allen is a Rob Gronkowski fantasy handcuff. Nothing more. He's not a starting candidate.

Week 3 vs. Houston Texans

Dwayne Allen has 3 targets in two games. Nope. Nope. Nope. Do not start him in your lineups.

NE TE Dwayne Allen - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at New Orleans Saints

The Patriots have the highest implied total in Vegas for Week 2, despite playing on the road, with an absurd implied total of 31 points. You're going to want to start most Patriots in Week 2. That doesn't include Dwayne Allen, however, after only seeing two targets in Week 1. He's more of a Gronk handcuff right now.

NE TE Dwayne Allen - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Chiefs

Dwayne Allen is shaping up to be a weekly touchdown or bust TE streaming candidate. Martellus Bennett may have been a top-10 tight end in this offense last year as the Patriots' No. 2 tight end, but much of that production came after Rob Gronkowski was lost for the season. Consider Dwayne Allen as nothing more than a handcuff to Gronk.

NE TE Dwayne Allen - 2017 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

The Patriots traded for Dwayne Allen this offseason, and he now enters a role vacated by Martellus Bennett, who finished as the TE10 in PPR leagues last season. In games where Rob Gronkowski didn't play 80 percent of snaps, Bennett was TE11 in PPR, and interestingly enough, in games where Gronk did play 80 percent of snaps, Bennett was even better, as TE6 in that span (Weeks 5-10). Dwayne Allen could have upside, even if Gronk is healthy.

Fantasy Downside

Allen has been injury prone himself, missing eight games in the last three seasons. Reports out of New England have also indicated Allen is not exactly off to a great start. Not to mention, the Patriots also added another big weapon on the outside in Brandin Cooks. All of this could submarine Allen's fantasy chances.

2017 Bottom Line

All things considered, Allen could turn into a weekly touchdown-or-bust option for fantasy lineups, but he has been one of the better red zone tight end options in his career. Since being drafted, Allen has the third-highest red zone TD rate among tight ends. The good news is his ADP makes him practically free in the 17th round.
