SEA WR Brandon Marshall - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Dallas Cowboys

Brandon Marshall has been the biggest beneficary of WR Doug Baldwin's injury. He leads the Seahawks with 12 targets over two weeks, but his numbers have not been great despite being deeply involved in the offense. Marshall has seven receptions for 90 yards after two weeks and he was held out of the end zone Week 2 after scoring in Week 1.

The Cowboys are up next for Seattle. They are ranked 21st in aFPA to wide receivers. Even though Marshall will continue to get on the field and receive targets, the numbers still haven't been there. Do not start him Week 3. He is a good bench stash, though.

SEA WR Brandon Marshall - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Chicago Bears

Brandon Marshall was targeted a team-high six times last Sunday and we expect more moving forward with No. 1 receiver Doug Baldwin out for several weeks. Marshall ended up with three catches for 46 yards and he scored his first touchdown as a Seahawk.

It won't be easy this week against a very good Bears pass defense on the road. But Marshall's fantasy stock has risen from the preseason and he now could help your team on a weekly basis.

For Week 2, we don't like this matchup for Seattle so it might be okay to pick up Marshall off the waiver wire. He should stay on the bench this Sunday.

NYG WR Brandon Marshall - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Brandon Marshall was targeted 10 times last week against the Bucs, but only gained 46 yards on 6 receptions. Marshall has been disappointing as he tries to acclimate to the Giants offense and he’s struggled to get separation.

This week, he’ll face a surprisingly effective Chargers pass defense allowing only 192 passing yards per game to opposing teams. Until we see consistent production from Marshall, or unless Odell Beckham Jr. misses the game, Marshall is probably better left on your bench.

NYG WR Brandon Marshall - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Detroit Lions

Brandon Marshall looked slow off the line last week and struggled to get open against the Dallas secondary. He wound up with only 1 catch on 4 targets for 10 yards and was outshined by youngsters Roger Lewis and Sterling Shepard. It was a disappointing start for Marshall, who the Giants needed to step up after Odell Beckham was announced inactive for the game.

Marshall is a drop candidate now, but he still has some long-term upside. He’s only two years removed from a 1,502-yard season, and if Beckham returns as expected this week, we might see Marshall benefit from less attention. Still, it’s worrisome he looked so bad in Week 1. He shouldn’t be active in any league format until we see he can still be productive.

NYG WR Brandon Marshall - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Dallas Cowboys

After scoring 14 touchdowns in 2015, Brandon Marshall had a down season last year with the Jets, scoring only three touchdowns and catching only 59 passes for 788 yards. Marshall may be entering the twilight of his career at age 33, but he still has the size and wide-catching range to provide the Giants with a legit option opposite Odell Beckham Jr. in the passing game.

This week, Marshall is nursing a shoulder injury, but is supposed to be active. As long as he’s ready to go, he has fringe WR2 potential against the Cowboys, who were a little below-average against the pass last year. Sterling Shepard was targeted 105 times last season operating out of the WR2 spot for the Giants, so there should be opportunities for Marshall if he stays healthy.

NYG WR Brandon Marshall - 2017 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Only two years removed from a stellar 2015 fantasy season where he caught 109 passes for 1,502 yards and 14 touchdowns, Brandon Marshall will be playing with Eli Manning this year. While he had some good seasons with Jay Cutler in both Denver and Chicago, Manning is a much more successful passer than any of the other quarterbacks Marshall has played with. The Giants run an offensive system that emphasizes prolific passing numbers and should allow Marshall to use his physicality after the catch to rack up additional yardage.

Fantasy Downside

Marshall will be the WR2 on a team for the first time in his career, playing opposite Odell Beckham Jr. The 33-year-old Marshall battled injuries during a down year with the Jets last season, recording only 788 yards and three touchdowns. Marshall may continue his decline as he enters his 12th season, and he may lose targets to second-year slot receiver Sterling Shepard. Marshall will help the Giants, but his days of being a top fantasy player may be over.

2017 Bottom Line

There is reason to like Marshall, as the Giants were eighth in the league in passing attempts last season and should be able to feed multiple receivers in their offense. However, he’s too risky at this point in his career to count on. With an ADP in rounds six and seven, there should be better options available on the board. If you can get him as a WR4 in round 12 or 13, then he’s worth rostering, but he’ll likely go long before his value says he should.

NYJ WR Brandon Marshall - Week 15, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs Miami
Brandon Marshall is banged up and he has just not been the same with the Jets quarterback situation. Bryce Petty is the man now, and that isn't saying much. Marshall will also be limited this week with multiple injury issues.

If he does play, Marshall will still not be a very good fantasy option. Keep him on the bench for Week 15.

NYJ WR Brandon Marshall - Week 14, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs San Francisco
Despite the awful performance by the New York Jets last week, Brandon Marshall is still doing his best to help the team. He continues to be targeted about nine times a game, so the opportunity to put up some numbers is there. However, there are big question marks at the QB position with Bryce Petty getting the start on Sunday.

Marshall has a great matchup this week, as the Niners are 32nd in aFPA to wide receivers. That should be enough for him to help your fantasy team. Start him as a low-end WR2 against San Fran.

NYJ WR Brandon Marshall - Week 13, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs Indianapolis
As QB Ryan Fitzpatrick goes, so goes Brandon Marshall. With Fitzpatrick playing one of his best games of the season last week, Marshall caught six passes for 67 yards and a touchdown. It was his first touchdown since Week 5, and although the numbers weren't overwhelming, they were better than recent weeks.

The Jets face the Colts, who are 27th in aFPA to wide receivers. This matchup raises Marshall's stock to the point he is one of the better fantasy WR plays for Week 13. Start him as a solid WR1 against Indy.

NYJ WR Brandon Marshall - Week 12, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs New England
Brandon Marshall tied his season-low for targets last time out, and his receiving yards were the lowest of the season. This is not a reason to give up on Marshall, as it's more of a result of how bad Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Jets QBs have been.

Marshall should put up decent numbers if he gets the ball thrown this way. The last time he played the Patriots, he caught 8 passes for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Of course that was with the 2015 Fitzpatrick - a different quarterback.

Marshall should be a starter, but only as a WR2 for Week 12.
