Hi Scouts. I have a bit of a complicated scenario, and I was wondering if you could offer advice as to what I should do.
My keepers are currently Mike Evans (3rd Round Compensation this Year) and Sammy Watkins (5th Round Compensation this Year). Evans' keeper contract ends this year (he goes back into the pool of available players next year), while Watkins is kept through the 2018-19 season.
I have the option to keep LeSean McCoy (2nd round Compensation this Year), but this would force me to buy out Watkins contract. The result of this would mean that I would lost my 10th round pick this year, and 9th round pick in 2018-19, but not have to give up a 5th round pick in compensation this year to keep Watkins
Which option would you therefore prefer from my standpoint:
Keep Watkins on contract (and thus lose my 5th round pick this year because of compensation), keep my 2nd round pick from this year, and keep my 10th round pick from this year.
OR
Keep McCoy (and thus lose my 2nd round pick because of compensation), keep my 5th round pick this year, lose my 10th round pick this year (from buying out Watkins), and lose my 9th round pick next year (from buying out Watkins).
4for4 seems to be really low on Watkins this year, so I lean towards keeping McCoy. Also, because it's a keeper league and less top talent is available, McCoy would the top player available from a relative value standpoint. Still a bit unsure though given Watkins upside and cost of buying him out. Seems steep.
Sorry for the complex scenario and thank you for your help.
I'm sure it's primarily injury-related, and the QB situation isn't great there. I still think there's a lot of upside there, but it's just a risk thing.
We're not super high on Watkins, but in a 3WR league for a 5th round pick, I still think that's pretty good value. He's going in the 3-4th round in a lot of leagues and we still have him as a WR3 at least. If it didn't cost you anything, I'd say to keep McCoy, but because of the steep price, I'd probably just hang on to Watkins and take the top RB's available in the first couple of rounds.
Awesome. Thanks, Brandon!
Thank you.
On a side note, why is 4for4 so low on Watkins? Anything other than injury history?
League is .5 PPR. Starting Lineup: 1 QB, 3 WRs, 2RBs, TE, Flex, SuperFlex (including QBs), Def, K.
