New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold returned Sunday after missing a month with a foot injury. His return was almost short-lived.
Darnold limped into the locker room with another foot injury after one series against the Buffalo Bills at New Era Field. Darnold didn't attempt a pass and had one carry for 9 yards on New York's first possession. Josh McCown, who had started the last three games in Darnold's absence, replaced the rookie quarterback for a series.
Darnold was originally ruled as questionable but returned under center at the end of the first quarter. The Jets wouldn't confirm if it was the same foot he injured earlier this season against the Miami Dolphins.
NYJ QB Sam Darnold - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook
Week 17 at New England Patriots
Sam Darnold will get his last start of his up-and-down rookie season. He is coming off one of his best performances last Sunday when he threw for 341 yards, a career high, and three touchdown passes. It was a shootout with Green Bay and Darnold was up to task matching veteran Aaron Rodgers.
Darnold will face the Patriots for the first time in his career. He missed the first meeting this season. New England is ranked 20th in aFPA to quarterbacks so there is some possibility for success for Darnold. But overall, we think the Pats will play to win and shut down the Jets offense so keep Darnold on the bench for Week 17 on the road.
