Scouting report

by Anthony Stalter

STL WR Wes Welker - Week 11, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Baltimore
Wes Welker caught 3-of-6 targets for 32 yards in the Rams Week 10 loss to the Bears. He finished second on the team in targets behind only Brian Quick (7) and tied for the team lead in catches. If Nick Foles was so inaccurate, Welker would have had another catch for a first down in the first half. Perhaps the change from Foles to Case Keenum will help spark the Rams passing game but it's unlikely that Welker will become fantasy relevant. Monitor his usage now that Keenum is under center. Perhaps he'll become Keenum's new security blanket.

DEN WR Wes Welker - Week 19, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Divisional Round – Wes Welker vs. Indianapolis Colts
In what will likely be his final games with the Broncos, Wes Welker heads into the playoffs after a non-Welker like regular season. He totaled 49 grabs for 464 yards and two TDs in ’14, with just one game over 60 yards. While Peyton Manning and the Denver offense will utilize their third down specialist, he should not be on your postseason roster given his limited role.

DEN WR Wes Welker - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 – Wes Welker vs. Oakland Raiders
Wes Welker saw four looks from Peyton Manning last Monday night at Cincinnati, resulting in four grabs for 30 yards. He has 47 catches, but only two scores in ’14. Manning threw for 340 yards at Oakland in early November, but Welker finished with just 24 yards. He is a risky start on Sunday, even at home against the Raiders.

DEN WR Wes Welker - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 – Wes Welker vs. Cincinnati Bengals
After coming off his best game of the season in Week 14 versus the Bills, Wes Welker had just two catches for 16 yards in the win at San Diego last Sunday. With Peyton Manning not throwing nearly as much as he was a month ago, there has to be a better option for you at WR besides Welker.

DEN WR Wes Welker - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 – Wes Welker vs. San Diego Chargers
Peyton Manning completed only 14 passes last week, but Wes Welker had his highest yardage game of the season – 82 yards, including a season-long 38-yard grab, on six catches. Wes still only has two TDs on the season and is the No. 4 option for Manning when Julius Thomas is healthy. Welker had just two receptions for five yards in the first meeting with the Chargers and makes for at best a WR 3/flex start.

DEN WR Wes Welker - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 – Wes Welker vs. Buffalo Bills
Wes Welker had just a 12 yard reception last Sunday night at Kansas City. Peyton Manning only threw his way two times. Coming in to the win, Wes had registered four receptions in each of the previous three games, but the Denver ground game took control against the Chiefs. On the season Welker is under 300 yards with just two TDs, so you’re better off finding another starting WR, especially with the Broncos facing a strong Bills D.

DEN WR Wes Welker - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 – Wes Welker vs. Miami Dolphins
Even with Emmanuel Sanders and Julius Thomas leaving last week’s contest in St. Louis due to injuries, Wes Welker finished with only four receptions for 28 yards. This, despite Peyton Manning going 34-of-54 for 389 yards. Wes has only 264 receiving yards in ’14, but could be called on more this Sunday with Sanders likely out. However, with his lack of production for most of the season, Welker makes for no more than a WR3/flex option.
