IND TE Trey Burton - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Las Vegas Raiders

Trey Burton was disappointing last week in a pretty good matchup against the Texans, catching just one of the three balls thrown his way for 11 yards. He’s been the most productive tight end for the Colts, however, with a touchdown in each of the previous two games. That being said, he’s still part of a group of options at the position, making it risky to trust him in any given week. Sit him against the Raiders this week, who rank 14th in aFPA to opposing tight ends.

IND TE Trey Burton - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Houston Texans

Trey Burton had three catches on six targets for 42 yards and a touchdown against the Titans last week. Burton has caught a touchdown in two straight games now, and he has five touchdowns on the season. He’s still splitting snaps with Mo Alie-Cox and Jack Doyle – when healthy – so it’s risky to trust him, but he’s been the most productive of the three.

The Texans rank 18th in aFPA to opposing tight ends, so it’s a reasonably good matchup for Burton if he can get the volume. Still, we have him as a fringe-starter, just outside our top-12 at the position this week, given the risk associated with the Colts’ offense and with banking on a specific one of their three tight ends.

Week 12 vs. Tennessee Titans

Trey Burton has a great matchup this week against a Titans defense that ranks 25th in aFPA to opposing tight ends. He’s been largely unproductive when it comes to catches and yards, but has somehow found the end zone four times this year – twice rushing and twice receiving. Burton is an interesting option in deeper leagues, but has a ton of risk associated with him. If he scores a touchdown again, like he did last week, he’ll be a success. Otherwise, he’s unlikely to make much of an impact. In most leagues, there should be better options available.

Week 11 vs. Green Bay Packers

Trey Burton caught all three balls thrown his way last week for 24 yards. Burton’s usage has been sporadic, and his work in the run game has been a big part of the end zone success he’s had, which seems unsustainable. He’s still splitting work with Mo Alie-Cox, and in a tough matchup against the Packers this week, he’s too risky to start. Sit him, and drop him in most leagues.

Week 10 at Tennessee Titans

Trey Burton caught just one of the four balls thrown his way last week against the Ravens, gaining only six yards. He was outsnapped by Mo Alie-Cox as well, which is a bit concerning. The Colts are using all three of their tight ends pretty regularly, making it hard to trust any of them. Burton has a great matchup against the struggling Titans defense. Tennessee ranks 28th in aFPA to opposing tight ends this year. His usage in the run game and his red-zone looks the past few weeks make him probably the best of the Colts’ tight ends, but he’s still too risky in most leagues. We have him outside our top-12 and fantasy owners should look elsewhere if possible.

Week 9 vs. Baltimore Ravens

Trey Burton caught three balls for just nine yards last week against the Lions, but he also ran in a touchdown for the second time in as many games. Burton is getting work in this offense and Philip Rivers seems to really like his tight ends. However, it’s tough to trust any one of the Colts players at the position, considering three of them get ample work. Mo Alie-Cox had three catches and Jack Doyle had a touchdown against the Lions, and that distribution is likely to continue while all three are healthy. Burton has some streaming value against the Ravens, who rank 19th in aFPA to opposing tight ends, but he’s risky. If you can look elsewhere, stay away from the Colts tight end situation.

IND TE Trey Burton - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Detroit Lions

Trey Burton had a pair of touchdowns – one rushing, one receiving – against the Bengals before the bye last week, along with four receptions and 58 yards. It was Burton’s first really productive fantasy outing as a Colt, but he’s quietly had at least five targets in all three of the games he’s been active in Indianapolis. It helps that he probably knows Frank Reich’s offense from his days in Philadelphia, and Philip Rivers has always known how to make use of his tight end.

Burton shares snaps and targets at the position with both Jack Doyle and Mo Ali-Cox, making it risky to trust any of them, but he’s worth looking at if he can continue to see this many targets. This week, he faces a Lions’ defense that actually ranks 5th in aFPA to opposing tight ends. That being said, Burton has some streaming value in deep leagues, particularly if Alie-Cox misses time (he’s not practicing as of Wednesday). If Alie-Cox is active, stay away from all three Colts' tight ends. If Alie-Cox is out, consider Burton a risky streamer with upside.
