TB WR Russell Gage - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Carolina Panthers

Julio Jones returned last week, but Tom Brady still liked Russell Gage in that third WR role. Gage saw six targets, finishing 5-65 while playing on 53% of the offensive snaps. Gage has had nice performances in back-to-back weeks, but he's still a risky option at WR considering his production throughout the year. Gage has averaged 58% of the offensive snaps this year while averaging 34.4 yards per game. He's shown up recently, but that production isn't promised. He should be viewed in the low WR4 range in a favorable Week 17 matchup vs. the Panthers (27th aFPA).

TB WR Russell Gage - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Arizona Cardinals

Russell Gage stepped up in a big way last week, leading the team in targets with 12. He ended up finishing with a stat line of 8-59-2. The surge of production was somewhat explained by Julio Jones being inactive. But it was still pretty surprising to see Gage get so many targets considering he had three total in the previous two games. Jones' health will be worth monitoring for Gage owners. If Jones is inactive, Gage becomes a viable option in a decent matchup vs. the Cardinals (18th aFPA). Although he does carry some risk considering he's had a lot of games with little production this year. If Jones is active, then Gage should be off the fantasy radar for Week 16.

TB WR Russell Gage - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Atlanta Falcons

Russell Gage finished 2-24 on four targets last week while playing on 64% of the offensive snaps. It's a big fall from his 13-target game in Week 3, but it was to be expected. The Bucs had Mike Evans back from suspension along with Chris Godwin and Julio Jones returning from injuries. As long as everyone else is active, it's hard to see Gage establish a large enough role in this offense to have consistent fantasy production. He's off the radar in most fantasy leagues despite a favorable Week 5 matchup vs. the Falcons.

TB WR Russell Gage - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Russell Gage was the big winner of the Bucs' carousel of backup wide receivers in Week 3. With no Mike Evans, Chris Godwin or Julio Jones, Gage stepped up and saw a team-high 13 targets, finishing 12-87-1. His 13 targets were more than double any other player, and his 12 receptions were four more than every other wide receiver on the team combined. Unfortunately for Gage, Evans returns this week, and Jones might return. Gage's value really only came from the fact everyone else was out. If both players are active, he still has some appeal as a WR3. If Jones is out, then Gage will rise in the rankings and could be a sneaky start for teams in need. He'll draw a middle-of-the-road matchup vs. the Chiefs this week.

TB WR Russell Gage - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Green Bay Packers

Russell Gage had a decent outing in Week 2, finishing 5-28 on six targets. Gage played on 66% of the Bucs' offensive snaps, which was the second-most on the team. He could see a similar role in Week 3 as Mike Evans is suspended and Julio Jones might be inactive again due to an injury. It's a tough matchup against the Packers, so we wouldn't expect a huge game. But Gage is a nice waiver add if you're in need of a receiver, especially if Jones sits. Gage should be viewed as a low-end WR3 with Jones inactive and more of a WR4 with Jones active. Gage is also dealing with a hamstring injury of his own, but he's expected to play.

TB WR Russell Gage - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at New Orleans Saints

Turns out Russell Gage will fill in for Chris Godwin after all. Although Gage was fairly limited in Week 1, finishing 2-13 on two targets, he played on 42% of the offensive snaps, matching fellow WR Breshad Perriman. Based on the snaps and targets from Week 1, Gage is clearly the third option behind Mike Evans and Julio Jones. But we saw plenty of success from Antonio Brown (the Bucs' WR3 last year) a season ago. Gage may not produce like AB, but he carries some fantasy relevance with Godwin sidelined. He should be viewed as a WR4 heading into a decent matchup vs. the Saints in Week 2. Gage's health should be monitored this week as he's dealing with a hamstring injury. In fact, all the WRs should be monitored as Mike Evans and Julio Jones have each missed practice. If either of them is out, then Gage becomes an even better option.

TB WR Russell Gage - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Dallas Cowboys

Russell Gage started the offseason as a nice sleeper pick, someone who would replace Chris Godwin as he healed from a torn ACL. But then Godwin's recovery was quicker than anyone anticipated, and the Bucs brought in Julio Jones. Suddenly Gage is on the outside looking in. If Godwin is active, then it's hard to see Gage providing much value in Week 1. But if Godwin is unable to play, then Gage could step into WR4 range in a favorable matchup vs. the Cowboys.
