Scouting report

NYG RB Orleans Darkwa - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Washington

Orleans Darkwa had only 6 carries for 10 yards last week against the Cardinals, and he has fallen behind Wayne Gallman on the depth chart. While he still gets some short-yardage work, it’s hard to trust Darkwa on a struggling team with a diminishing workload, and fantasy owners should leave him on waivers this week.

NYG RB Orleans Darkwa - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Orleans Darkwa is slowly losing his job, as he saw only 24% of the team’s offensive snaps last week against the Cowboys, compared to 46% for rookie Wayne Gallman. Darkwa finished the game with only 29 yards on 10 carries, though he did add another 15 yards on a pair of receptions.

Darkwa faces a tough Eagles defense allowing the second-fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs this season. In a timeshare with Gallman and Shane Vereen and going up against a tough defense, Darkwa should be left on the bench.

NYG RB Orleans Darkwa - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Dallas Cowboys

Orleans Darkwa got the bulk of the work last week against the Raiders, carrying the ball 14 times. While he only gained 32 yards on the ground, he did score a touchdown and he remains the primary two-down running back for the Giants.

This week, Darkwa faces a Cowboys team that has been very average against the run this year, allowing 7 rushing touchdowns on the season. Darkwa should continue to get double-digit touches and he has some upside with Eli Manning back in at quarterback, but with limited work in the passing game he’s a low-end RB2 option at best.

NYG RB Orleans Darkwa - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Oakland Raiders

Orleans Darkwa and the rest of the Giants offense struggled against Washington last week. Darkwa wound up with only 30 yards on 11 carries. He remains the starter in New York, however, and should continue to get the bulk of the touches. While Wayne Gallman received 39% of the snaps last week, Darkwa still gets more carries, averaging 15.25 carries per game over his last four starts.

This week, Darkwa has a chance to rebound against the Raiders. Oakland gives up the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing running backs this year. Darkwa has limited upside because he does mostly two-down work, but he has RB2 potential for fantasy owners in standard league formats.

NYG RB Orleans Darkwa - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Washington

Orleans Darkwa had 20 carries for 74 yards and a touchdown last week against the Chiefs. He was also targeted 4 times in the passing game, catching 2 passes for 16 yards. Darkwa has had at least 16 touches and at least 70 yards in three straight games, and he’s the clear starter in New York.

This week, Darkwa was a little hobbled in early-week practices, but he’s supposed to be ready to go Thursday night against a Washington below average against the run—allowing 4.3 yards per carry (22nd in the league). Darkwa should be considered a solid RB2 option, especially in standard league formats.

NYG RB Orleans Darkwa - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Orleans Darkwa had a quality day last week against the 49ers, albeit an unspectacular one. He averaged 5.0 yards on 14 carries, and added a pair of receptions for a total of 88 yards from scrimmage. Darkwa is the clear starter in the Giants backfield right now, giving him a high floor, especially in standard league formats.

This week, Darkwa has RB2 upside against a Chiefs run defense that has struggled this season. Only the Patriots are allowing more yards per carry on the ground this year, and they’ve allowed 9 rushing touchdowns on the season. The only thing that could hurt Darkwa is if the Chiefs score big early and force the Giants to abandon the run. Still, if he gets at least a dozen touches again, he should be a viable option.

NYG RB Orleans Darkwa - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at San Francisco 49ers

Orleans Darkwa had 16 carries last week against the Rams and ended up with 71 yards on the ground. He now has 46 carries over his last three games, and he’s averaging 5.1 yards per carry this season. Darkwa should be the lead back for the Giants moving forward, giving him RB2 upside in most weeks.

This week, Darkwa gets to face the 49ers, who have allowed more fantasy points to the running back position than any other team this year. Only the Colts have given up more rushing touchdowns, and no team is allowing more rushing yards per game. With a great matchup against a team that struggles offensively, Darkwa should get plenty of touches and has high upside. He should be active as an RB2 in all league formats.
