Scouting report

OAK RB Maurice Jones-Drew - Week 10, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 – Maurice Jones-Drew vs. Denver Broncos
Most NFL franchises would have waived Maurice Jones-Drew by now, but the Raiders still give him touches every week even though they truly need to evaluate younger players such as Latavius Murray. Jones-Drew is averaging 2.1 yards a carry. Maybe the Raiders have a time machine in development and are hanging onto Jones-Drew because he used to be pretty good. Or maybe, they are just being the Raiders. At any rate, Jones-Drew has no place on any roster, in any format.

OAK RB Maurice Jones-Drew - Week 9, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 – Maurice Jones-Drew at Seattle Seahawks
The glory days in Jacksonville were so long ago. After carrying six times for eight yards in Oakland's 23-13 loss to Cleveland, Maurice Jones-Drew is averaging 2.3 yards per carry and 11.2 yards per game. It is sad to see a great player wind up his career like this, but it is not surprising as players do not go to Oakland to find the Fountain of Youth. If for some reason you are still stashing Jones-Drew, now is the time to give up.

OAK RB Maurice Jones-Drew - Week 8, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 – Maurice Jones-Drew at Cleveland Browns
The end game continues to approach for Maurice Jones-Drew. Against Arizona last weekend, Jones-Drew rushed for six yards on three carries. Volume would be the only thing that could save this fading veteran and it just isn’t there at the moment. There are higher upside players that would be better bench options for your squad.

OAK RB Maurice Jones-Drew - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 – Maurice Jones-Drew vs. Arizona Cardinals
After an abysmal start to his Oakland career, Maurice Jones-Drew showed some signs of life in a 31-28 loss to San Diego, rushing for 30 yards on four carries. He also caught one pass for 10 yards. Unfortunately for Maurice, he remains a secondary player behind starter Darren McFadden. Although he could come into value if something happens to McFadden, which is not out of the realm of possibility, Jones-Drew has no business being in your lineup this weekend.

OAK RB Maurice Jones-Drew - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 – Maurice Jones-Drew vs. San Diego Chargers
It is a shame Maurice Jones-Drew’s career is winding down the way it is. Thought to be a candidate for a mini-revival with the Raiders after flashes during the preseason, Jones-Drew has missed time due to injury and been completely ineffective. When Oakland was destroyed 38-14 by the Miami Dolphins before hitting their bye week, Jones-Drew rushed for one yard on two carries and caught two passes for two yards. Although there is talk the Raiders may run more under new coach Tony Sparano, Maurice’s tank appears to be completely empty. This guiding light of lost hope has no business in your lineup.

OAK RB Maurice Jones-Drew - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 – Maurice Jones-Drew vs. Miami Dolphins

After missing the last two weeks, Maurice Jones-Drew may be back for the London showdown with Miami. The Dolphins were just gashed on the ground by Kansas City’s Knile Davis and yield 125.3 rushing yards per game. On a week where players such Marshawn Lynch, Giovani Bernard, Andre Ellington, Montee Ball, and Zac Stacy are on bye, one might look at the matchup and be tempted to give Jones-Drew a shot.

Ultimately, it is not a move you need to make. Jones-Drew did not look good earlier this season and will be probably splitting time with Darren McFadden. He offers little hope to desperate owners.

OAK RB Maurice Jones-Drew - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 – Maurice Jones-Drew vs. Houston Texans
Maurice Jones-Drew’s Oakland debut was a bust. Facing the strong New York Jets run defense last weekend, Jones-Drew rushed for 11 yards on nine carries and caught two passes for 12 yards. Since then, Jones-Drew had surgery done on his hand, casting doubt on his availability against the Texans. In the wake of his sluggish start and his uncertain status, fantasy owners need to make a place for MJD on the bench.
