Scouting report

MIN RB Matt Asiata - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Matt Asiata - Week 17 vs. Chicago Bears

Matt Asiata has 10 touchdowns this season. Let that sink in. He only averages 51 total yards per game and 3.3 yards per carry, but his knack for the endzone makes him relevant for fantasy.

This week he faces a favorable Bears defense. Chicago has allowed seven rushing touchdowns to backs in the last four weeks. The Bears also allowed an average of 126 rushing yards to backs during that span.

Asiata should be viewed as a strong RB2 in a good matchup this week.

MIN RB Matt Asiata - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Matt Asiata - Week 16 vs. Miami

Matt Asiata is one of the weirdest fantasy options out there. He's only averaging 3.3 yards per carry and hasn't eclipsed 60 rushing yards in his last eight games, but he somehow manages to turn into a decent play. Last week he only ran for 36 yards, but he scored a touchdown and caught seven passes for 50 yards out of the backfield.

With Asiata you know you're good for about 60-70 yards and a possibility for a touchdown. He's also been a good PPR option as he has at least three receptions in his last six games.

He faces a Dolphins defense that's about middle-of-the-road when it comes to stopping running backs. Asiata should be viewed as a low-end RB2 or flex play.

MIN RB Matt Asiata - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Matt Asiata - Week 15 vs. Detroit Lions

Matt Asiata isn't much, but he's all the Vikings have right now at RB. He carried the ball 19 times and caught three passes in the last game. Ben Tate and Joe Banyard combined for five touches in backup duty. Asiata totaled 64 yards, which is pretty much all you can hope for with him.

He gets a brutal matchup this week against Detroit. The Lions have allowed the fewest rushing yards in the league and are holding opponents to just three yards per carry.

Asiata will get plenty of touches, which makes him a RB3, but don't expect a lot of production.

MIN RB Matt Asiata - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Matt Asiata - Week 14 vs. New York Jets

Jerick McKinnon is still not practicing for the Vikings which means Matt Asiata will likely draw another start. He started last week in a favorable matchup and ran 14 times for 52 yards. He also caught four passes for five yards.

Asiata has a very low ceiling and the roof falls down a little lower this week in a tough matchup. The Jets have allowed the third-fewest rushing yards in the league and the second-fewest rushing touchdowns.

If McKinnon plays Asiata isn't worth a look. If McKinnon sits again, Asiata should be viewed as a RB3 or flex option.

MIN RB Matt Asiata - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Matt Asiata - Week 13 vs. Carolina Panthers

Matt Asiata sat out last week's game due to a concussion, but he was a full participant in Thursday's practice. He is likely to draw the start this week with Jerick McKinnon ruled out. In the four games Asiata started earlier this season he averaged 81 yards and scored four touchdowns (three in one game). Once McKinnon took over his touches reduced dramatically.

Asiata's lack of carries shows the Vikings may not have their full support behind him. But at this point they don't have many options. He does get a good matchup this week. The Panthers have allowed 14 total touchdowns to backs this season, an average of over one per game.

He'll be a low RB2 or flex play option this week.

MIN RB Matt Asiata - Week 11, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Matt Asiata - Week 11 vs. Chicago

Matt Asiata has seven touchdowns this season, but six have come in two games. In Week 9 Asiata struggled to run the ball as he had 10 carries for 26 yards, but he was able to score three times making him seem valuable when he really wasn't.

Asiata has a chance for goal line carries, but his only value will come if he scores a touchdown. He'll get enough touches to make him a RB3, but he's not a great option this week.

MIN RB Matt Asiata - Week 9, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Matt Asiata - Week 9 vs. Washington
Matt Asiata carried the ball four times for one yard last week. His biggest impact was through the air as he caught four passes for 26 yards. His role has been dramatically reduced as rookie Jerick McKinnon has taken over the starting role. Asiata's value is down the toilet and he's not a reliable option anymore.
