Scouting report

NYG TE Kaden Smith - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Kaden Smith scored a pair of touchdowns against Washington last week as the primary tight end for the Giants. He’s been in on 100% of the team’s offensive snaps in each of the past two games and gathered up six catches for 35 yards to go with his touchdowns last week. Smith is risky because he’s very touchdown-dependent. In five games as the starter, he’s only eclipsed 40 yards once. Plus, the Eagles rank seventh in aFPA to opposing tight ends, and they have athletic linebackers and safeties that shouldn’t have trouble covering Smith. Fantasy owners could stream him if desperate, but don’t expect a repeat of last week.

NYG TE Kaden Smith - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Washington Redskins

Kaden Smith was held to just 38 yards on three catches last week against the Dolphins. He has some upside against a Washington defense that ranks 25th in aFPA to opposing tight ends this year now that Evan Engram has been placed on injured reserve, but it’s too risky to trust him in most leagues due to his minimal production. He should’ve eaten up the Dolphins defense but instead struggled. Smith is worth taking a flyer on for fantasy owners decimated by injuries at the position due to his opportunity, but it would be nice to see some consistent production before trusting him in your championship lineup.

NYG TE Kaden Smith - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Miami Dolphins

Kaden Smith filled in again for the injured Evan Engram last week against the Eagles, but was limited to just nine yards on two receptions. With this being the only sample we have of Smith with Eli Manning, it’s hard to forecast how he’ll fare moving forward. The Dolphins rank 16th in aFPA to opposing tight ends this season, so there’s some upside here if fantasy owners are desperate at the position, but in most cases, look elsewhere if possible.

NYG TE Kaden Smith - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Philadelphia Eagles

Kaden Smith has been reasonably productive over the past two weeks with both Evan Engram and Rhett Ellison sidelined. He caught a touchdown against the Bears two weeks ago and caught six balls for 70 yards against the Packers last week. Smith needs Engram to continue to miss time – he’s questionable against the Eagles on Monday night – but if he remains the starter, he’s shown he can be a quality streaming option, particularly in larger leagues.

The Eagles have been vulnerable against the tight end this season, ranking 21st in aFPA to the position, and they just allowed a big game to Mike Gesicki of the Dolphins last week. If Engram is out again, Smith should be considered a fringe starter in all leagues. Since it’s a Monday night game, however, fantasy owners should make sure they have a backup plan available, or perhaps go with someone safer on Sunday if Engram’s status is still in doubt.

Update: Engram is out, so smith has some upside in a nice matchup.
