Cardinals RB Stepfan Taylor is expected to miss “significant time,” according to coach Bruce Arians, because of a calf injury.
Taylor didn’t have a carry against the Eagles before going out with the injury in the second half. But it now means that the top two backs that were supposed to support Andre Ellington — Jonathan Dwyer and Taylor — are not around. And this is all while Ellington is playing through a bum foot. The Cardinals have explored adding a running back through trade but nothing has been that close to happening.
It's likely going to mean a bigger role for Ellington. Marion Grice — a rookie sixth-round pick of San Diego who was cut and on a practice squad before the Cards signed him — is the Ellington backup. At some point, the Cards will have to add a back to the 53-man roster and Kerwynn Williams is an option from their own practice squad, the story said.
ARI RB Jonathan Dwyer - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook
Week 3 – Jonathan Dwyer vs. San Francisco
Jonathan Dwyer only had nine carries and 31 yards against the Giants last week, but he got a goal line carry that yielded a touchdown and it looks like he has a good chance to maintain short yardage work. However, his role as a short yardage runner doesn’t bode well for him to be a consistent fantasy producer, and unless you’re in a touchdown only league, he’s worth little more than an Andre Ellington handcuff at this time.
Following his domestic violence arrest Wednesday, Dwyer will be deactivated and should be pulled out of any lineups. Dwyer can be safely dropped.
