DEN TE Jeff Heuerman - 2019 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Coming off his best season as a pro, Jeff Heuerman finished ’18 with 31 receptions for 281 yards and only two scores. With Jake Butt battling injuries, Heuerman was the starting TE for much of year before being sidelined himself for the final month with broken ribs. His breakout game came in early November versus the Texans, in which he caught 10 of 11 targets for 83 yards and a TD.

Fantasy Downside
Heuerman missed the final month last year and has missed at least two games in all three of his NFL seasons. It’s no secret that his playing time will take a huge hit since the Broncos drafted Noah Fant in the first round and plan for him to take over the starting role once he’s fully up to speed with the offense.

Bottom Line
Heuerman may remain the starter when the regular season begins, but Fant will take over the position and likely see most of the snaps by October. There is no need to draft Heuerman but keep an eye on the Denver TE position in the event the rookie either struggles or is unable to make it through the season.

DEN TE Jeff Heuerman - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Coming off the best game of his career earlier this month versus Houston, Jeff Heuerman was targeted five times against the Chargers last week. He finished with four receptions for 20 yards, the eighth time this season he’s been held to fewer than 25 yards. The Steelers defense is No. 7 versus the pass, so Heuerman should only be started if you’re thin on options.

DEN TE Jeff Heuerman - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Los Angeles Chargers

Two weeks ago, in the loss versus the Texans, Jeff Heuerman was a beast. On a team-high 11 targets, he recorded 10 receptions for 83 and scored his second TD of the season. While WR Courtland Sutton will likely benefit the most from the Demaryius Thomas trade, Heuerman will see additional looks from Case Keenum as well. He could be used as a spot start this week against the average Chargers pass defense.

DEN TE Jeff Heuerman - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Houston Texans

Even though he was targeted five times last week at Kansas City, Jeff Heuerman caught just one pass. But, it went for a four-yard TD, his first score of the season. The TE has only 15 grabs in ’18 and has registered more than 50 yards in a game once. Houston is No. 12 versus the pass, so Heuerman should only be started if you’re limited on options.

DEN TE Jeff Heuerman - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Kansas City Chiefs
In the win over the Cards last Thursday, Jeff Heuerman was called for offensive pass interference after catching a short TD. It was the lone pass that went in his direction, as Case Keenum threw just 21 passes. Heuerman led the team with 57 receiving yards versus Kansas City in Week 4 but is only a TE2 play on Sunday.

DEN TE Jeff Heuerman - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Arizona Cardinals
Jeff Heuerman was targeted six times last Sunday versus the Rams, leading to three catches for 23 yards. Since Jake Butt was lost for the season due to a torn ACL, Heuerman has been a bigger part of the passing attack, with 17 targets and nine receptions the past three weeks. He has yet to find the end zone and likely won’t on Thursday at Arizona. Heuerman should only be used as a TE2 play.

DEN TE Jeff Heuerman - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Los Angeles Rams
Even though Case Keenum put the ball in the air 51 times for over 375 yards last week in the loss to the Jets, Jeff Heuerman collected only two grabs for 18 yards. He may see some targets in the red zone but isn’t receiving enough attention to warrant a fantasy start.
