DET RB Dwayne Washington - 2017 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

While Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick dealt with injuries for most of 2016, Dwayne Washington received 90 carries but ran for just 265 yards and one touchdown during his rookie season.

Fantasy Downside

Once again, Washington will be buried on the depth chart, which will limit his playing time. The Lions have been at or near the bottom in rushing for some time and Washington's 2.9 yards per carry won't help his cause.

2017 Bottom Line

Unless Abdullah succumbs to injury again in 2017, expect Washington to be used in spot and short-yardage duty. He has no fantasy value at this time.

DET RB Dwayne Washington - Week 16, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Dallas
Theo Riddick was out again last week at the Giants and Zach Zenner lost a fumble in the red zone, so Dwayne Washington handled most of the rushing attempts. The rookie finished with 14 carries for 31 yards and added another nine yards on two catches. There’s a good chance Riddick will miss another game this week, so look for Washington to again carry the load. Despite the opportunity, you're best starting another RB besides Washington this week, as the Lions ground game has been struggling and they'll be matched up against the best run defense in the NFL.

DET RB Dwayne Washington - Week 15, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at New York Giants
With Theo Riddick out last week versus the Bears, Dwayne Washington led the Lions ground attack with 16 carries for 64 yards and he also caught a 10 yard pass. Riddick is missing practice again this week, and Zach Zenner is recovering from a concussion, so the rookie should continue to see the majority of the snaps. Washington makes for a low-end RB2 play in what could be nasty weather.

DET RB Dwayne Washington - Week 14, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Chicago
Zach Zenner led the Lions rushing attack with nine carries for 40 yards last week in New Orleans. Dwayne Washington received seven rushes and gained 21 yards and also caught two passes for 19 additional yards. With Theo Riddick bothered by a sore ankle, Zenner and Washington handled almost all of the run game. Detroit ran for only 66 yards versus the Bears earlier this season, and Washington was limited to six yards on two rushes. He should not be started in the rematch.

DET RB Dwayne Washington - Week 13, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at New Orleans
With Theo Riddick and Matthew Stafford accounting for 13 of Detroit’s 19 rushing attempts on Thanksgiving, Dwayne Washington totaled just five carries for 19 yards. As the Lions are heavily involved in the playoff picture, Washington should only be on a fantasy roster as a handcuff to Riddick.

DET RB Dwayne Washington - Week 12, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Minnesota
Even though Dwayne Washington led the Lions with a career-high 13 rushing attempts last Sunday versus Jacksonville, he managed to run for just six total yards. Minnesota held the rookie to only 26 yards on 10 carries a few weeks ago, so you’re better off looking elsewhere for a starting RB.

DET RB Dwayne Washington - Week 6, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Los Angeles
After missing last week’s game against the Eagles, Dwayne Washington is expected to be back on the field on Sunday. However, Theo Riddick will continue to be the featured RB. Washington may garner a short TD, but he’s not worth having in your starting lineup.
