NO QB Drew Brees - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs Chargers

Brees is coming off 246 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in New Orleans' rally win over Detroit after being down 14-0 early in the game. Now, in what might be his final season, Brees gets one last game against the team that brought him into the league (though the team was of course in San Diego at the time). The last time Brees faced his former team, he went 23/36 for 207 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Chargers currently rank 25th in passing yards allowed per game. Brees is currently our No. 10 QB.

NO QB Drew Brees - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs Lions

Brees ended up having a very solid game on Sunday night against the Packers, going 29/36 for 288 yards and three touchdown passes. And that was still without Michael Thomas in the lineup. Alvin Kamara had nearly half of Brees' passing yards and two of his three touchdown passes. Brees might be getting Thomas back as Thomas returned to practice on a limited basis, so keep an eye out there. This is actually Brees' first trip to Detroit since 2014, where he threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns.

NO QB Drew Brees - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs Packers

Is Drew Brees done? That's been the question lately after his start to the 2020 season, which includes just three passing touchdowns and an interception. He gets a bit of slack for not having Michael Thomas, however. This week, he gets the Packers, who made Kirk Cousins look silly in Week 1 and did just fine against Matthew Stafford. Brees sits as our No. 15 QB this week.

NO QB Drew Brees - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs Raiders

The passing yards may not have all been there but Brees still threw two touchdown passes in Week 1 against the Buccaneers. This week, he faces the Raiders, who allowed 270 yards passing to Brees' former backup, Teddy Bridgewater. The big story, of course, is that Brees will now be without star WR Michael Thomas for multiple weeks thanks to a high-ankle sprain. That's a big loss as now it will be up to Emmanuel Sanders and Tre'Quan Smith to carry the load on the outside. Brees will likely be targeting TE Jared Cook quite often for the time-being.

This is still a fairly young Raiders defense so Brees will have en edge. And despite being on the road and the first team to visit Las Vegas, there will be no crowd to cause disruption to the Saints offense. He's our currentQB9.

NO QB Drew Brees - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Drew Brees enters what could be his final season as an NFL quarterback and he will do so against perhaps the greatest quarterback of all time as he and Tom Brady will match up at the Superdome on Sunday. It's also against a team that Brees has fared well against in recent memory. In his last three games against the Buccaneers (he missed Week 5 of last season with an injury), Brees has thrown seven touchdowns and just one interception and has averaged about 290 yards (though that number is pumped up by his 439-yard performance in that 2018 Week 1 shootout).

Even with Tampa having an improved defense with the draft selection of Antoine Winfield Jr, this game could be another high-scoring affair and one reason why he is ranked No. 5 in our Week 1 QB rankings, so if you have Brees, you're playing him, unless you grabbed him as a backup to someone such as Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson.

NO QB Drew Brees - 2020 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

In an offseason when we had a quarterback carousel, Drew Brees stayed put in New Orleans. Coming off a disappointing early playoff exit in 2019, New Orleans' Super Bowl window is closing, so the 41-year-old is giving it one last run. He still has Michael Thomas to throw to as well as a new friend in Emmanuel Sanders, who should complement Thomas very nicely. Even Tre'Quan Smith flashed at times in 2019.

Fantasy Downside

There's no really much of a downside to Brees other than the simple fact that he is 41 years old. He won't add anything on the ground like the top options will, but he'll still sling the football.

2020 Bottom Line

It is a bit odd that Brees isn't a high-end fantasy quarterback, but that's mainly because he doesn't run like Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson or DeShaun Watson. But he's still Drew Brees and you can get him near the eighth round in drafts this year. He's currently our 10th-ranked quarterback, which just goes to show how deep the position is again this year.

NO QB Drew Brees - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Panthers

Brees didn't crack 300 yards against the Titans but still came away with three touchdown passes. And despite a reported knee issue over the weekend, Brees looks to be having no trouble heading into Carolina for Week 17. There's no chance of the starters resting in this one with the Saints still in play for a first-round bye and possibly the No. 1 seed in the NFC. As of now, the only quarterback we have ranked higher this week is Patrick Mahomes, thanks to Baltimore resting Lamar Jackson. Brees is ready to bring home more fantasy championships in Week 17.
