NYG TE Darren Waller - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Darren Waller caught two balls for 32 yards last week against the Eagles. Waller has been getting targets - averages 6.2 per game this year - but he just isn’t producing. He has just three double-digit half-PPR fantasy performances this year and only one touchdown all season. The Giants offense hasn’t been good enough to sustain fantasy pass-catchers, and Waller just hasn’t been able to be an exception to that.

This week, Waller faces a Rams defense that ranks eighth in aFPA to opposing tight ends. He gets enough targets to warrant fantasy consideration, but he’s a risky, fringe-starter in most leagues. Expect a high level of variance for the veteran, and fantasy managers should hold their breath if forced to start him.

Week 16 at Philadelphia Eagles

Darren Waller returned to action last week after missing several weeks with injury. He caught four of his six targets for 40 yards in a loss to the Saints. Waller has had some games with significant targets - including 11 against Miami back in early October - but he has only one touchdown in nine games this year and has mostly struggled along with the rest of the Giants offense.

This week, Waller faces a Philadelphia defense that ranks 20th in aFPA to opposing tight ends. With the targets he tends to get at a thin position for fantasy, he’s worth starting as a fringe-TE1 option, but this Giants offense is hard to get too excited about.

Week 8 vs. New York Jets

Darren Waller had a great game last week in a win over the Commanders. He caught seven of his eight targets for 98 yards and scored his first touchdown of the season. Waller has been getting plenty of targets and Tyrod Taylor seems to be a nice fit for the offense right now, so stay optimistic on the fantasy potential for the veteran.

Despite how good the Jets have been defensively, guarding the tight end position has been a struggle, as they rank 29th in aFPA to opposing tight ends. Waller should once again see a heavy dose of targets and be worth considering in all leagues. With very few tight ends commanding as high of a target share, Waller is a steady option, even without elite production for much of the season.

NYG TE Darren Waller - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Washington Commanders

Darren Waller was held to 43 yards last week against the Bills, but he caught five of his seven targets and he leads the Giants in targets so far this year. He has 18 targets over the past two weeks and the Giants’ offense might actually improve a bit under Tyrod Taylor if Daniel Jones’s injury keeps him out for awhile.

This week, Waller faces a Washington defense that ranks 17th in aFPA to opposing tight ends. Waller has enough talent and gets enough targets to be worth consideration regardless of the matchup, even if the fantasy production hasn’t exactly been there lately. We have him ranked as a solid option in all leagues based on expected targets.

NYG TE Darren Waller - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Buffalo Bills

Darren Waller caught eight balls for 86 yards in a blowout loss to the Dolphins last week. While he still hasn’t found the end zone this year, it was good to see him getting double-digit (11) targets. Waller is likely the most complete pass-catcher in New York, so the volume should theoretically be there for him.

This week, Waller has a tough matchup against the Bills. Buffalo ranks fifth in aFPA to opposing tight ends and has been stout defensively for much of the season so far. Waller has enough talent and gets enough targets to be worth considering every week at a position with a dearth of options, and there’s upside with Matt Milano missing from the Buffalo linebacking corps, but it’s risky to trust anyone in the New York offense right now. Consider him a low-end TE1 option this week.

Week 5 at Miami Dolphins

Darren Waller is struggling along with the rest of the New York offense this year, and he was held to just 21 yards on three catches on Monday night against the Seahawks. The Giants are 1-3 on the year, but it’s easy to forget about the one victory, as they’ve been completely routed in the three losses. Waller has only one game with double-digit half-PPR fantasy points.

If possible, Waller should rebound this week. He has a nice matchup against the Dolphins, who rank 20th in aFPA to opposing tight ends. Expect the Giants to be playing from behind and for Waller to get more targets and more receptions as a result. At a tough fantasy position, Waller still offers enough upside to warrant starting in fantasy leagues. We have him ranked inside our top 10 options at tight end.

NYG TE Darren Waller - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Seattle Seahawks

Darren Waller led the team with seven targets last week against the 49ers, but he was held to just three catches and 20 yards in a forgettable day for the New York offense. Waller has struggled against two good defenses - San Francisco and Dallas - this season, but caught six balls for 76 yards in Week 2 against the Cardinals. The Giants’ offensive weapons might be turning into matchup plays.

This week, Waller has a nice matchup against the Seahawks, who rank 11th in aFPA to opposing tight ends. It’s not the best matchup for tight ends specifically, but Waller is such a talent at the position, he’s worth starting anyway. He’s essentially a receiver in this offense, and the Seahawks have bled gallons of fantasy points to wide receivers this season. Start him.
