Scouting report

CAR WR Corey Brown - Week 21, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Super Bowl vs. Denver

Corey “Philly” Brown had a big game against the Cardinals in the NFC Championship Game, primarily due to an 86 yard touchdown reception. He ended up with four catches on the day for 113 yards, and he was second on the team with seven targets. Brown has run hot and cold in his short two year career in Carolina, but his issues with drops from earlier in the season seem to be less pronounced in the playoffs.

This week, Brown will face the league’s top pass defense from the regular season. Nobody allowed less passing yards than Denver this year, and it will be difficult for the Panthers to put up elite offensive numbers in the Super Bowl, like they did in the NFC Championship Game. Brown is a risky option, but is probably one of the better bets outside of the top two receiving options this week to catch a long touchdown, giving him some boom/bust value in most leagues.

CAR WR Corey Brown - Week 20, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

NFC Championship vs. Arizona

Corey “Philly” Brown had a big catch late in the game for the Panthers to help move the sticks, but he ended up with only two catches and 22 yards total on the day as the Panthers abandoned the passing game early on after a big lead against Seattle. Brown has talent, but is a risky proposition, even in good matchups. Against the Cardinals and their top ten pass defense, Brown is even riskier. Fantasy owners should probably steer clear of the Panther receiving corps this week, with better options available for the opposing team and in the AFC.

CAR WR Corey Brown - Week 19, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 19 vs Seattle
Corey “Philly” Brown didn’t do much in his second season, but ended the season better than he started it. He caught three passes in each of his last four games and even scored a touchdown against the Giants. Brown hasn’t been consistent enough to warrant legit fantasy consideration, but he’s worked his way back into the lineup over the course of the year after struggling with drops early on. Fantasy owners should consider him too risky, with little upside this week against the league’s best pass defense.

CAR WR Corey Brown - Week 10, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Tennessee
Corey “Philly” Brown showed signs of life last week with a pair of catches for 50 yards and a touchdown. He also lost 12 yards on a single rush, but he was targeted four times in the passing game, and showed a little bit of the promise that he displayed a season ago. He’s still too risky to have in your lineup, but isn’t a terrible roster add in deep leagues for fantasy owners looking for upside depth down the stretch, just in case he continues to develop.

CAR WR Corey Brown - Week 9, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Green Bay
Corey “Philly” Brown had three catches for 42 yards and a touchdown last week in a victory over the Colts. He remains the third option in the Panthers passing game, however, and is a long shot to produce at any kind of consistent rate. Brown is interesting to keep an eye on if he should start to improve enough to warrant additional looks in the offense, but for now, he’s better left stashed on your bench or on waivers.

CAR WR Corey Brown - Week 2, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Houston
Corey “Philly” Brown and the rest of the Panthers pass catchers did very little last week, but Brown continues to be a starter so he’s worth rostering. Keep him out of your lineup however until he shows he’s going to start getting enough targets, and until the Panthers offense shows it can create a fantasy relevant WR.

CAR WR Corey Brown - Week 1, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Jacksonville

Corey “Philly” Brown has struggled in to catch the ball in practice and in the preseason and while he’s slated to start on the outside this year in place of the injured Kelvin Benjamin, his upside is limited in the offense in which he plays. The Panthers will run the ball a lot, and while Brown should a lot of promise his rookie season, it’s risky to assume he’ll be able to fulfill a prominent role now that he has increased opportunity. He’s worth rostering, but I wouldn’t trust him in your lineup just yet.
