HOU TE C.J. Fiedorowicz - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Tennessee Titans

In the loss to the Ravens last Monday, C.J. Fiedorowicz was targeted 8 times by Tom Savage, resulting in 4 grabs for 37 yards. He was the intended recipient of Savage’s final pass that was intercepted, but after spending most of the season on I.R., has re-established himself as the Texans' top TE. With DeAndre Hopkins drawing double teams, Fiedorowicz could have some room to roam over the middle at Tennessee. He should be used as a low-end TE1 option.

HOU TE C.J. Fiedorowicz - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Baltimore Ravens

In the win over Arizona last Sunday, C.J. Fiedorowicz caught both of his targets for 18 yards. Tom Savage had the best game of the season, throwing for 230 yards, but the Texans' passing attack will continue to go through DeAndre Hopkins. Fiedorowicz is still a great weapon in the red zone, but should be used as a TE2 option versus a solid Baltimore defense.

HOU TE C.J. Fiedorowicz - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Arizona Cardinals

After spending eight weeks on injured reserve due to a concussion, C.J. Fiedorowicz returned to face the Rams on the road last week. While he only caught 2 passes for 10 yards, it was good to see him be a part of the Houston offense again. Fiedorowicz is a big target for Tom Savage and will continue to see some looks, especially with Will Fuller nursing sore ribs. He has a good matchup this week at home versus Arizona's secondary, so don't be surprised if Fedorowicz posts good numbers.

HOU TE C.J. Fiedorowicz - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

After registering only 21 catches during his first two NFL campaigns, C.J. Fiedorowicz had a breakout 2016 season, grabbing 54 passes and 4 TDs. He caught at least four passes in nine of the final 12 games in which he played. Tom Savage has less than 100 career regular season passing attempts, so he may be looking for his 6-foot-5 tight end over the middle and in the red zone. Fiedorowicz should have a good fantasy day to start the year.

HOU TE C.J. Fiedorowicz - 2017 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

C.J. Fiedorowicz is the rare tight end who combines pass-catching and blocking ability. The Texans seem to have been extremely happy with his development -- a fact that's borne out by their usage at the position. According to ESPN's Mike Clay, during head coach Bill O'Brien's first two seasons with the Texans, 12 percent of the team's targets were directed at the tight end position. Last year, that mark nearly tripled to 31 percent. Houston had two or more tight ends on the field for 24 percent of its offensive snaps in 2014, 20 percent in 2015, and 20 percent in 2016.

Fantasy Downside

The question then becomes whether some of Fiedorowicz's increased action was due to the presence of QB Brock Osweiler. Of Osweiler's 557 aimed throws, Clay reports 31.6 percent were directed at a TE. Of Tom Savage's 70 aimed throws, only 24.3 percent went to a TE (although Fiedorowicz did miss one of his games). With Osweiler now gone and WRs Braxton Miller and Will Fuller entering year two of their NFL careers, there could be fewer throws to the TE position this season. In addition, the Texans retained fellow tight end Ryan Griffin, who had a career season in 2016, catching 50 passes of his own while working in tandem with Fiedorowicz. The potentially limiting factors are a concern.

2017 Bottom Line

Fiedorowicz's ability to both block and catch give him the edge over Griffin. After the Texans ranked 31st in the NFL in red-zone offense last season, they'll be focused on improving in that area. Could Fiedorowicz be more of a factor there? It's possible. But Texans TEs are more waiver wire fodder (or cheap DFS plays) than players meriting an investment of draft capital.

HOU TE C.J. Fiedorowicz - Week 19, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Divisional Round at New England
In the victory over Oakland last Saturday, C.J. Fiedorowicz finished with two receptions for 35 yards. He saw just one target in the loss to the Pats in Week 3 and should not be a part of your fantasy roster this week, as Houston's offense will have trouble moving the ball.

HOU TE C.J. Fiedorowicz - Week 18, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wild Card Round vs. Oakland
In the regular season finale at Tennessee, C.J. Fiedorowicz collected just two catches, but one went for his fourth TD of ’16. Despite erratic quarterback play, C.J. had a breakout year, with 54 grabs for 559 yards. He registered a team-leading six receptions for 82 yards in Mexico versus Oakland in November, but how much faith do you have in the Texans to advance very far in the playoffs?
