ARI K Chandler Catanzaro - 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Chandler Catanzaro had a breakout season in 2015 and expectations should be high again this season. Catanzaro made 28-of-31 field goals and 53-of-58 extra points. His extra points were second in the NFL behind Graham Gano (56) and the Cardinals kicker finished third in the league with 137 points.

Fantasy Downside
While he was eighth in the NFL in field goal accuracy last year at 90.3 percent, Catanzaro was only 27th in extra point percentage at 91.4 percent. According to the team's official web site, the five misses caught the ire of HC Bruce Arians at one point, although he later felt he was too harsh after noticing other kickers missed their fair share too. Catanzaro said only a small adjustment is needed to have more success on extra points in 2016.

2016 Bottom Line
Whatever the case, the opportunities will be there and few kickers will be playing with as prolific of an offense. In case you missed it, the Cardinals finished first in the NFL in total offense and second in scoring. With all of their skill position players returning, Arizona will continue to produce loads of scoring opportunities.

ARI K Chandler Catanzaro - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Chandler Catanzaro proved that a successful kicker doesn't have to come out of the NFL Draft. He played as well as the Cardinals could have expected and is starting to learn how to manage the mental side of being a pro kicker after a solid rookie season. Last year, Catanzaro tied an NFL record by making 17 consecutive field goals to start his career. The rookie wound end up making 29 of his 33 attempts, missing the four over a span of five games.

Fantasy Downside
As an undrafted free agent, an extended slump could be all it takes to end the Catanzaro era in Arizona.

Bottom Line
He's not a kicker to draft, but he is one to be mindful of should Arizona continue to rise. Carson Palmer's anticipated return to full health should be good news for the offense in general, and Catanzaro will benefit from the anticipated improvement.

ARI K Chandler Catanzaro - Week 18, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wildcard Weekend – Chandler Catanzaro vs. Carolina

Chandler Catanzaro made his only field goal attempt last week and added a pair of extra points as the Cardinals still fell to the 49ers. This week, Catanzaro will face a Panthers defense that has allowed over 20 points per game this year, but has played much better in recent weeks, including holding the Falcons to only three points on Sunday.

Catanzaro is mostly hobbled by the fact that the Cardinals offense (and particularly the quarterback position) has been devastated by injuries this season. There’s no reason to expect better against an amped up Panther defense this week, and fantasy owners should look elsewhere for their wildcard fantasy kicker.

ARI K Chandler Catanzaro - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 – Chandler Catanzaro vs. San Francisco

Chandler Catanzaro had two field goals against the Seahawks last week as the Cardinals injury problems finally caught up to them and the offense managed only six points in a pivotal game.

The Cardinals won’t have an easy time moving the ball against the 49ers either, despite San Francisco’s struggles on defense last week against the Chargers. Catanzaro has a nice leg, but it’s hard to trust him on that offense with the QB situation and the RB situation so troubled. Leave him on waivers.

ARI K Chandler Catanzaro - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 – Chandler Catanzaro vs. Seattle

Chandler Catanzaro had a great game last week against the Rams, making all four field goal attempts in a matchup that failed to yield a single touchdown from either squad. He even hit a 51 yard attempt, as well as two shots from beyond 40 yards.

This week, Catanzaro is a risky option, however, against a tough Seattle Seahawks defense that allows fewer points per game than anyone in the league outside of Detroit. The Cardinals and Seahawks kickers may benefit from playing against such superb defensive units, but the smart money is to say defense rules the day and nobody goes home with big fantasy numbers. Catanzaro is too risky to start during championship fantasy games with this matchup.

ARI K Chandler Catanzaro - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 – Chandler Catanzaro vs. St. Louis

Chandler Catanzaro made three field goals last week, but he also missed two in a game that the Cardinals ended up winning by only three points. Missing from 36 yards in the second quarter is uncharacteristic for the rookie, and then missing a 34 yarder late could have been devastating if the Chiefs offense had been able to move the ball into field goal range and send the game to overtime.

Catanzaro will face the Rams this week, but with the Cardinals offense struggling during the second half of the season, he’s a risky start for fantasy owners. There should be better options available to you at the kicker spot and Catanzaro should remain on waivers.

ARI K Chandler Catanzaro - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 – Chandler Catanzaro vs. Kansas City
Chandler Catanzaro made his only attempt last week, a 44 yard field goal near the end of the first half that temporarily put the Cardinals down by only one score. The rookie hasn’t gotten the same amount of attempts lately and the Cardinals offense seems to be headed on a downward spiral under crippling injuries. With all these factors in play, and a tough matchup against the Chiefs this week, Catanzaro should probably be on waivers.
