Scouting report

by Chris Kucharski

CIN WR Brandon LaFell - Week 8, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs Washington
Brandon LaFell has four touchdowns in the last three games, and that could continue has opposing defenses are paying attention to A.J. Green with double coverage in the red zone. LaFell also caught four passes for 83 yards, so he is putting solid numbers when he gets some opportunities. He still has been inconsistent with his numbers every week.

LaFell will face a Redskins defense this week that is 15th in aFPA to wide receivers. The good news is LaFell is clearly the No. 2 receiver ahead of Tyler Boyd, so targets should keep coming his way. Start him as a low-end WR3 or flex for Week 8.

CIN WR Brandon LaFell - Week 7, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs Cleveland
After a breakout game against Dallas, Brandon LaFell's numbers fell to two catches for 13 yards last week. The Bengals have really focused the passing game on A.J. Green and RB Giovani Bernard, so it's hard to predict which Bengals wide receiver is next on the pecking order.

LaFell deserves some consideration because of the matchup against an awful Cleveland pass defense, but not enough to give him a start. Keep LeFell on the bench for Week 7.

CIN WR Brandon LaFell - Week 4, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Miami
Brandon LaFell has been quiet through three weeks with his new team. He has been targeted 15 times, which has produced nine receptions for 164 yards and zero touchdowns. The good news is LaFell has been getting more snaps than rookie Tyler Boyd, but that could change as the season progresses.

Although the Bengals are treating LaFell as the No. 2 receiver right now (and they play the Dolphins who have not been good against wide receivers this season), LaFell still stays on your bench for Week 4.

NE WR Brandon LaFell - Week 20, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

AFC Championship at Denver
Brandon LaFell's stat line from last week somehow summarizes his 2015 season, and outlook this weekend. He received five targets, but was only able put up a 3-6 line in the process. In an inefficient season, in a tough matchup, we are not projecting much for LaFell this weekend. He is playing for the Patriots, though, and there are only so many options to consider this weekend. We have him as WR8.

NE WR Brandon LaFell - Week 19, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 19 vs Kansas City
Simply put, Brandon LaFell was horrible this year. After receiving six to nine targets weekly for two months, with little to show for it, LaFell's target volume finally dropped off. With ten targets in the last three weeks, and so little production even when targets have been there, it's hard to trust LaFell this weekend. Still, he figures to be the Patriots second wideout, and we have him as a fringe WR2 based off that fact alone.

NE WR Brandon LaFell - Week 17, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Miami

After eight consecutive weeks of seeing between six to nine targets a game, and very little production to show for it, Brandon LaFell's target volume has finally dipped the last couple weeks. He has seen six targets over the last two weeks, five of which came two weeks ago. His 1-19 line in Week 16 isn't inspiring confidence in anyone.

The Patriots' wideouts are in a nice spot on paper in Week 17, against the 26th ranked aFPA matchup to opposing WRs. Someone figures to catch passes, but with LaFell's lack of targets of late, and lack of production even when targets have been present, he remains a WR4/5 desperation play only.

NE WR Brandon LaFell - Week 16, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at New York Jets
Brandon LaFell had an encouraging Week 15, putting up a 4-88 line on a season low five targets. The target volume wasn't ideal, but the 80 percent catch rate is easily his highest of the season, and his 88 yards are his highest total since Week 9. Still scoreless on the season, LaFell remains a desperation play only, despite all the injuries to surrounding WRs. We have him as a fringe WR4 or WR5 depending on your league size and scoring.
