ARI RB Darrel Williams - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Seattle Seahawks

Darrell Williams got some spot work after James Conner got hurt last week against the Eagles, carrying the ball three times for nine yards before leaving with his own knee injury. Williams had eight carries and a touchdown against the Raiders back in Week 2, so there’s some touchdown upside if he’s good to go and Conner misses time. Still, starting Williams is a leap of faith, as he’ll likely be behind Eno Benjamin on the depth chart. Leave him on waivers in most leagues.

Update: With Williams out as well as Conner, be sure to dial up Benjamin.

ARI RB Darrel Williams - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Los Angeles Rams

Darrell Williams filled in admirably for James Conner last week after Conner hurt his ankle. Williams ended up with eight carries and two receptions for 62 total yards from scrimmage and a touchdown. Williams’ touchdown came from one yard out in the fourth quarter, meaning if Conner misses time, he should be the goal line back. That’s a lucrative role in this offense. If Conner is out, expect Williams and Eno Benjamin to both be involved, but Williams’ touchdown potential will make him a quality flex option in deeper leagues. Watch that injury report carefully. If Conner starts, Williams goes back to the bench.

KC RB Darrel Williams - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Cincinnati Bengals

Clyde Edwards-Helaire suffered a collarbone injury last week, so it's likely Darrel Williams will draw the start in Week 17. It's a role Williams is familiar with as he was the Chiefs starter for a lot of the year when CEH was out with another injury. In the five games where Williams started, he averaged 17.6 touches for 94 scrimmage yards with three total touchdowns. He shined as a receiving option out of the backfield, averaging 4.8 receptions in that five-game span. Even with CEH active, the Chiefs still kept Williams fairly involved. He gets a middle-of-the-road matchup this week against the Bengals. We're projecting around 15 touches for Williams, as the Chiefs will likely get Derrick Gore involved a bit as well. Williams should be viewed as a strong RB2 play in Week 17.

KC RB Darrel Williams - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Darrel Williams had just five touches for 12 yards last week. The most disappointing part about that is he had no receptions and just one target. Williams had been getting consistent production as a receiver out of the backfield, but that changed last week. Williams also played on 29% of the offensive snaps, his lowest amount since Week 2. Williams' playing time has been slowly decreasing since Clyde Edwards-Helaire returned from injury, which is somewhat expected. He's still getting around 10 touches though, which in a favorable matchup against the Steelers could be enough to make him a solid RB3 or flex play.

KC RB Darrel Williams - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Los Angeles Chargers

Darrel Williams had just five touches last week, and one of those touches was a 23-yard touchdown reception. But if you take that play away, Williams had 16 yards on four touches. Part of that, though, is that Williams didn't play as much after the Chiefs built up a big lead. Before the blowout, Williams had his typical role as a decent backup to Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Williams plays just enough and usually sees just shy of 10 touches a game. He's not a league-winner, but he's not a bad low-end RB3/flex option if you need him. This week he gets a favorable matchup against the Chargers, who have allowed the fifth-most average fantasy points to running backs.

KC RB Darrel Williams - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Darrel Williams is still playing a lot since Clyde Edwards-Helaire returned. He played on 53% of the snaps in Week 11 and 46% in Week 13 (Chiefs had a bye in Week 12). Williams saw a similar workload in both weeks, but he was much more productive in Week 13. Williams saw five carries and three targets each game, but in Week 13 he caught all of his targets for 60 yards. Williams is probably good for around 10 touches a game as long as CEH is still active. It's not much but does give him some flex appeal, especially in PPR formats. He'll be a lower-end RB3/flex play in a favorable Week 14 matchup vs. the Raiders. Williams finished with 144 scrimmage yards and a TD in his last matchup vs. the Raiders, but that was with CEH out.

KC RB Darrel Williams - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Denver Broncos

Darrel Williams out-snapped Clyde Edwards-Helaire in Week 11 53% to 47%, but was out-touched by CEH 14 to 4. Week 11 was CEH's first game back from injury, and he had the Chiefs' bye in Week 12 to rest up a bit more. We'd expect Williams' role to diminish moving forward, which is unfortunate since he played well while CEH was gone. Williams did see more targets (3 to 2) than CEH in Week 11, but overall wasn't involved much as a weapon. Williams is nothing more than a desperation flex play in Week 13 against the Broncos.

KC RB Darrel Williams - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Dallas Cowboys

The Chiefs activated Clyde Edwards-Helaire this week, which is a little surprising ahead of their Week 12 bye. Especially since Darrel Williams has been doing a fine job in his place. In fact, some might argue Williams has been better. He's coming off a great game in Week 10 as he finished with 144 scrimmage yards (and a TD), 101 of which came as a receiver off nine receptions. Williams has averaged 4.8 receptions in his five starts this season, which is double what CEH has done so far in his career. Even though CEH is active this week, Williams should still be viewed as a solid RB2. He does face a tough Cowboys defense that has given up the 7th-fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs. But we still expect around 15 touches for Williams as CEH eases back into things.

KC RB Darrel Williams - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 @ Las Vegas Raiders

Anyone who was concerned about Derrick Gore's presence can rest easy. Darrel Williams out-touched Gore 22 to 4 last week as Williams finished with 77 scrimmage yards and no touchdowns. We can expect a similar performance this week assuming Clyde Edwards-Helaire is still sidelined. There's a chance CEH is activated on Saturday, so that's worth monitoring if you plan on playing Williams. Assuming CEH is out, though, Williams should be a strong RB2 play. We'd expect plenty of touches in a favorable matchup against the Raiders who are giving up the 11th-most aFPA to running backs.

Friday, November 12, 2021 - 1:18pm
KC RB Darrel Williams - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Green Bay Packers

Darrel Williams had a solid game last week, finishing with 19 touches (13 carries, 6 receptions) for 110 scrimmage yards. He had a touchdown vultured away by Derrick Gore, but his production made up for his lack of scoring. And while Gore had a surprising role last week, it's still clear that Williams is the lead back with CEH out as he played on 64% of the offensive snaps compared to Gore's 20%. Williams draws an OK matchup vs. the Packers, who are 15th in schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to running backs. He should see around 15 touches, and finish between 70-100 yards. He'll be a lower-end RB2 play in Week 9.
