"You look at Bryant Johnson's production over the course of his career, he's been a 40- to 45-catch guy," Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said. "He caught 35 balls this year. A lot of times things happened that dictated that he wasn't a major part of what was going on in the game."
Linehan and Mayhew declined to call Johnson a disappointment, praising his work ethic and professionalism, but acknowledged needing more.
"We've got to figure out a way for Bryant and anybody else in that No. 2 spot or third spot to be somebody that has got one-on-one coverage that produces in that spot," Linehan said.
