Welker Working Hard, But Return Date Remains Uncertain

Wes Welker, appearing at a fundraiser for his charitable foundation in Oklahoma City, said his recovery from a left knee injury is “coming along pretty well" but his timetable for a return to the New England lineup is uncertain.

“It’s too early for that right now,” Welker said. “My main thing is just working hard and getting back as soon as possible.”

Welker also stated he injured "just the ACL" when many reports indicated he injured both his MCL and ACL.

Fantasy Impact:

Owners, especially those in PPR leagues, will be hoping Welker is ready to go on opening day, but given that he injured his knee in the final regular season game of 2009, his availability is uncertain. Promising Julian Edelman could pick up a lot of receptions if Welker misses a significant portion of the 2010 season. The Patriots made moves on draft day to bolster their passing game, selecting two tight ends and Ohio wide receiver Taylor Price. They also signed Torry Holt and David Patten. Welker's numbers might drop even if he gets healthy and at this point, he's a risky draft pick.
