Tomlin: Ben Roethlisberger (knee) surgery successful; injury 'not long-term'

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin confirmed quarterback Ben Roethlisberger underwent “successful” arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this morning.

Roethlisberger injured his left meniscus during the second quarter of Sunday's 30-15 loss in Miami. He left the game but returned in the second half and finished the game. Afterward he said he felt “something funny” in the knee.

Roethlisberger is resting at home and is expected to make a full recovery, Tomlin said.

“Though we do not know a specific timetable for when he will be able to return to the field, we are confident this injury is not long-term,” Tomlin added.

Fantasy Impact:

The hope is Roethlisberger only misses Week 7 and the team's bye in Week 8 has him ready for Week 9 against the Ravens. Landry Jones will get the start in Week 7 against the Patriots, it appears, although the story said he has yet to be given word he will be the starter.

Former Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins is planning to sign with the #Chargers on a one-year deal. Electric when healthy, Dobbins — who averages 5.8 yards per carry in his career — reunites with OC Greg Roman and can hit the market again in March.

Fantasy Impact:

Dobbins has had poor injury luck in his career, but has only managed 234 total rushes since being drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. This is a low-risk, high-reward move by the Chargers and might give them a runway to wait a little longer in the '24 Draft before they address the position.

Cowboys sign RB Royce Freeman

The Cowboys have signed running back Royce Freeman to a one-year deal. Freeman had 319 yards on 77 carries with 2 touchdowns last year for the Los Angeles Rams. He was 3rd round pick of Denver in '18.

Fantasy Impact:

Freeman hasn't rushed for 500 yards since 2018, his rookie season. This shouldn't have any impact on the team drafting at the position and/or bringing back Ezekiel Elliott.
