Both Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery have proven to be very capable and reliable receiving threats.

Gibbs made a ton of catches down the field in training camp and I think that's something we could see that is a little unconventional from other pass-catching backs around the league.

Writer Tim Twentyman went on to say Gibbs, in particular, "might be the best pass catching running back I've seen in Detroit in my 15 years covering the team. He's got natural hands and is a terrific route runner." With wide receiver Jameson Williams suspended and DJ Chark no longer in Detroit, Twentyman said vertical threats don't have to be receivers so that's one thing to watch out for with Gibbs.

Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) is practicing Saturday, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.

Great news for owners who picked up St. Brown this weekend. St. Brown injured his ankle during a mid-August practice but never seemed to be in serious danger of missing the upcoming Thursday night opener against Kansas City, according to the story. The story went on to say it's unclear if he'll even be listed Monday when the Lions and Chiefs release the first official injury reports of the 2023 season. St. Brown looks good to go for Week 1 at this point.

As the Lions’ RB competition unfolded, there weren’t many players who separated themselves. Injuries to Jermar Jefferson and Mohamed Ibrahim didn’t help, and the sudden retirement of Justin Jackson came as a surprise. When Craig Reynolds got the bulk of the carries in the first half of the preseason, it felt like you could pencil him in as RB3. However, the Lions’ initial 53-man roster has just two true running backs: Montgomery and Gibbs.

Not that many were worried about either option coming off the field after they spent so much monetary and draft capital on the two, but it's still a relief to know they're not part of a three-back rotation. It sounds as if Reynolds could be back on the team, as he's not subject to waivers. There will likely eventually be an RB3 on the roster, but it's clearly an afterthought for the team.

Rapoport went on to say Knight received some interest on the trade front, which could indicate a claim on Wednesday and he finds another team. Knight got off to a hot start the first three weeks of his career last season, running for 14-69-0, 15-90-0 and 17-71-1. But New York is deep at RB, after signing Cook and drafting Abanikanda, who was a sneaky pick in dynasty drafts. Carter also survives and is expected to perhaps keep a third down role.

On Tuesday, head coach Dan Campbell gave a positive update on Amon-Ra St. Brown’s condition.

“He’s doing good, he’s doing good. We weren’t going to play him in Carolina, but he’s doing great,” Campbell said, via the team.

St. Brown won’t be playing this week, and it doesn’t sound like there’s much concern about his ankle. The team added they never planned to have the wideout in the lineup against the Panthers. St. Brown got hurt in practice last week and did not play against the Jaguars last Saturday. We rank him 10th among our WRs heading into drafts.

It’ll be between Carter and Knight if the Jets keep a fourth running back, and Knight has played better throughout training camp, in addition to an impressive three-game stretch he had last season before tailing off. He’s also more explosive than Carter and is an option in the return game.

With the injury history of both Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook being extensive and ranging from minor to severe, you would think the team would keep a fourth running back, but that looks like it may not be the case. Abanikanda makes for a very interesting late-round pick, particularly in best ball. You don't have to squint to see how he will be rotated in early in the season and might cut out a season-long role.

Head coach Dan Campbell added that WR Amon-Ra St. Brown will likely be back on the field between Monday-Friday of next week after a small ankle injury suffered yesterday.

It doesn't seem to be anything to be concerned about, but we'll keep an eye on it. The wide receiver depth chart looks iffy, with Jameson Williams suspended until October and now nursing a hamstring injury that will keep him out of the rest of the preseason. Rookie tight end Sam LaPorta may be a bigger part of this offense than most were expecting.

Another setback for what has been nothing short of a dramatic beginning to a career. The next time we see Williams on the field will be in mid-October, following his gambling suspension. This opens the door for other Lions options to pick up the slack alongside St. Brown, as the sophomore wide receiver has to be thought of as an easy fade at his 11th-round ADP.

Dalvin Cook is arriving soon, and Breece Hall is practicing again after a long layoff, creating a first-class problem for the backfield-heavy New York Jets. "There's only one football," offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett said Tuesday. "You always want everybody to want the ball at all times, and I think we have a lot of people that want the ball and deserve the ball."

If Hall is quick to return to full health, you have to wonder if the team will make another move with the sheer amount of depth it is currently carrying on its roster.

The article goes on to mention that "Admitting he was 'an emotional train wreck' during the toughest times of his rehab, Hall said his knee is sound, although he also said he still experiences occasional knee soreness and still wonders whether he can make certain cuts. He downplayed Tuesday's return."

Drafting any Jets option at this point feels like a headache, but Hall should still be the target as his ADP continues to drop into the 3rd Round and possibly beyond.

If anyone thought Dalvin Cook’s addition was a sign that Hall’s recovery from a torn ACL was slower than expected, the reality is actually the opposite. Breece Hall is on track to return by Week 1, and Cook still needs some time for both personal reasons (he’s expecting a child) and health (coming off shoulder surgery).

Throughout the summer, Saleh has noted that Hall has run as fast as 22 or 23 mph while rehabbing, according to the team’s GPS tracking, which is about the same speed of his 62-yard run against the Broncos last year before getting injured. Hall is still being eased back into practice, though.

The addition of Cook was only surprising in that the Jets already have Hall in the building, and they view him as a star-level player capable of carrying the workload.

Adding Cook means someone else might wind up being the odd man out. Hall and Cook are safely locked into roster spots. So is Abanikanda, a fifth-round rookie. So then it comes down to which of Carter or Knight the Jets want to keep around as the third/fourth running back. Fullback Nick Bawden could factor into the equation, too, the story went on to say. Those owning Carter and Knight may want to wait this out a bit.
