Four starters did not participate in Wednesday's practice including running backs Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas.
Bush cracked a fibula at San Francisco on Sept. 20 and will miss at least two more games.
Thomas, who missed the Panthers' game with a sprained ankle, is improving, and Sean Payton said he is optimistic the starter will be able to play against the Cardinals. Smith has a groin injury, and he didn't appear in the locker room during that portion that was open to reporters Wednesday.
The duo of Betts and Ivory wasn't impressive so the Saints will be looking forward to getting Thomas on the field if at all possible. The Saints are at Arizona in a 4 p.m. game so it could get a little tricky with your roster waiting for Thomas.
