Saints FB Heath Evans, a 30-year-old free agent from NE, who brings more versatility to the offense. Evans has served as a fill-in TB with the Patriots, in addition to being more of a receiving threat and a special teams specialist. But the Saints insist that they also expect him to be an upgrade as a blocking back, which will be his main duty. Although Evans may see some work as a short-yardage runner in certain situations, the Saints didn't specifically bring him in to fill that void in their offense. FB Darian Barnes is a journeyman veteran who has bounced around with eight teams in his career. He joined the Saints late last season but played sparingly, mostly on special teams. FB Olaniyi SobomehinSobomehin, an athletic undrafted rookie, showed promise last year in training camp and on the practice squad. But he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in his NFL debut against SF after catching two passes for 8 yards. The Saints have gone with just one FB on their roster in the past, but they could keep two, especially if one of the backups stands out on special teams.
