Rex Ryan was amused by the speculation that the Jets traded for QB Kevin O'connell, the former New England third-round draft pick, to pick his brain about the Patriots.
"That's good," he said. "Let people think that. That's fine with me. [But] he was not brought here to be an assistant coach; he was brought here to be a quarterback. Now, will we pump him for information or something like that? Yeah. Who am I kidding?"
The Jets acquired O'Connell on Sunday from the Lions, who had picked him up after he was cut by the Patriots.
"If we can get something, absolutely. If you've got anything to help us, go for it. But that's not why we brought him in. We just think if we have a chance to get a good football player that we think can help us, whether it's immediately or down the road, we're going to try to add that player," Ryan said.
