Mike Williams: 'I do have to grow up.'
Tuesday, April 8, 2014, 10:48am
Williams, who was traded Friday to the Buffalo Bills for a 2014 sixth-round draft pick, admitted as much during an introductory press conference in Buffalo on Monday.
“Yes, I think I do need to grow up a little bit more,” Williams, 26, told The Buffalo News. “I think with me having a son, it made me realize things a little bit more and how important it is, and what type of future I have for him and my family. A lot of people are depending on me, so you’re right, I do have to grow up.”
Williams, who averaged 65 catches for 910 yards and seven touchdowns during his first three years in the league, was traded during what has been a problematic offseason for the 2010 fourth-round draft pick. His name surfaced three times in connection with off-field incidents.
It's good to hear Williams admit that he has some work to do in the maturity department. From a fantasy standpoint, he's not entering a good situation in Buffalo. The Bills were very run-oriented in 2013 and Steve Johnson is still the team's WR1, but things could change quickly if the rumors are true and the team parts ways with Johnson.

Bills trade for Mike Williams
Friday, April 4, 2014, 11:38am
Williams was born in Buffalo and played (briefly) for Bills HC Doug Marrone while at Syracuse in 2009 before leaving the team to avoid a possible suspension due to his involvement in a car accident with teammates. Marrone clearly feels that Williams' talent is worth a 6th round pick. He's penciled in as the Bills' WR2 or WR3, depending on the status of Steve Johnson.

Not much fantasy news here other than to remind folks that the offseason headaches continue for Williams.
Mike Williams hospitalized after stabbing
Sunday, March 23, 2014, 8:55pm
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams is at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa after a spokeswoman with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says Williams was stabbed in the thigh at his exclusive home in the gated community of Avila at 17027 Candeleda De Avila.
Cristal Bermudez Nunez says it happened Sunday afternoon and the football player's brother is suspected of stabbing him. Nunez is not releasing the brother's name at this time but says they are looking for him this evening.
Update: Williams was released late Sunday.
The saga of Mike Williams continues. Hopefully he'll make a full recovery, but we are never optimistic about a player with this many off the field issues.
Mike Williams pleads not guilty to criminal mischief
Tuesday, February 25, 2014, 11:47am
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams has entered a written plea of not guilty and been granted an arraignment waiver in a case in which he faces misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief and trespassing.
The charges stem from a Dec. 13 incident in which Williams caused approximately $200 of damage to the front door of an acquaintance, according to Hillsborough County court records.
Williams has been a troublemaker since his injury during the 2013 season and is on thin ice with new HC Lovie Smith.
Lovie Smith calls Mike Williams' behavior 'disturbing'
Friday, February 21, 2014, 12:40pm
"There's a pattern here and it's disturbing," new coach Lovie Smith said when asked about the situation at the NFL combine in Indianapolis on Thursday. "No one is bigger than this football team. He has to understand that.
"Have I been disappointed in Mike Williams? Of course," said Smith, who acknowledged that the team had worked to help resolve the situation. "There's a standard. We're just not going to put up with it, no matter who it is. You have to be good on the field and off the field. Simple as that. And if you're not doing what you need to do one or the other, you have problems and that's where Mike has to take care of a few things."
Among other things, the article discusses Williams' lavish house parties and other off-field troubles. We're not optimistic that Williams can quickly develop the maturity required to succeed under Smith.

Buccaneers receiver Mike Williams, who missed the final 10 games of last season with a hamstring injury, now finds himself facing off-field problems as well, with an arraignment in court later this month on misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief and trespassing from an unspecified December incident.
Williams, 26, is due in court Feb. 24, according to the Hillsborough County clerk's office. Williams could not immediately be reached for comment. The charges were first reported by Bay News 9 on Friday.
Mike Williams fined regularly after injury
Thursday, January 30, 2014, 11:10am
Fresh off signing a six-year, $40.25-million contract extension in the summer of 2013, wide receiver Mike Williams was placed on injured reserve in Week 9 with a torn hamstring. Since his injury, Williams has documented his partying and his new career as a rapper – complete with original recorded songs – for all the public to see on his Instagram account.
Players can party all they want to – as long as it doesn’t get them in trouble with the law or interfere with their job. But the team grew so concerned with Williams’ behavior over the last two months of the season that it was deemed immature and unprofessional as he accumulated several fines totaling more than $200,000 for either being late to mandatory team meetings or missing those meetings and scheduled rehab days for his torn hamstring during the 2013 season.
This is a situation to monitor this summer. Williams has a relatively low cap number (~$1.8 million) and may be let go if his work ethic doesn't get better in 2014.
Bucs to 'make sure' V-Jax gets his touches
Friday, November 15, 2013, 10:51am
Those numbers must change, Bucs coach Greg Schiano said.
“We need to make sure he gets his touches because he’s a dynamic player,” Schiano said. “You’re talking about a Pro Bowl player.
“And, certainly, with the loss of some (of our) weapons offensively, defenses are really going to key on him now. That’s a fact of life. But get over it and find a way to get him the ball. That’s what we have to do.’’
Much to the chagrin of his owners, Jackson is the #76 WR over the last two weeks. A matchup with a struggling Atlanta defense should be just what the doctor ordered. He is our #8 WR in Week 11.
Mike Williams placed on IR
Monday, October 28, 2013, 12:13pm
Williams has been bothered by a hamstring injury and had missed one game.
In six games this season, Williams had 22 catches for 216 yards with two touchdowns.
A fourth-round draft selection in 2010, Williams has 2,947 receiving yards and 25 touchdown catches in 54 career games with Tampa Bay.
It's a disappointing end to Williams' season after coming off a pretty good 2012 where he collected 996 yards and nine TDs. The injury ended up being a torn hamstring, and it leaves a Bucs offense already in already poor shape much worse - especially in the red zone. Tiquan Underwood and Eric Page are next up on the depth chart but aren't really fantasy options. TE Tim Wright could end up getting some red zone targets now and is coming off a 5/48/1 line from last Thursday night's loss to the Panthers.
Mike Williams says he has torn hamstring
Saturday, October 26, 2013, 1:07pm
Bucs WR Mike Williams told the Tampa Tribune he has a torn hamstring. Williams first hurt his hamstring Sept. 29 vs. Arizona.
The team has not made a decision yet about Williams, but expect him to miss some time and NFL.com article said. In fact, considering the Bucs record of 0-7 this year, they could eventually put him on IR and shut him down for the season.
