Michael Vick Fantasy News

ESPN New York - [Full Article]

Unless they pull a 180, the Jets won't be a factor in the DeSean Jackson sweepstakes -- a smart move. He's not a fit for them.

They held internal discussions on Jackson, with offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg giving his blessing. Mornhinweg, who coached him with the Philadelphia Eagles, told people in the organization that Jackson -- known for his bad-boy reputation -- wouldn't be a problem in the locker room. That apparently wasn't enough to sway Idzik, who reportedly hadn't reached out to Jackson's agent as of Saturday.

Fantasy Impact:

Jackson is scheduled to visit Monday with the Washington Redskins. The Oakland Raiders might be interested as well. It's also been reported Sunday that the Bills are looking into Jackson. In another update, the Chiefs are reportedly out of the sweepstakes. Interesting that those with perhaps the closest ties to Jackson, like the Chiefs with Andy Reid and Jets with Michael Vick and Mornhinweg, seem to have distanced themselves from the WR...

Jets coach Rex Ryan on QBs Geno Smith and Michael Vick: "It's going to be interesting to see the competition, but Geno is going to be hard to beat out."

Fantasy Impact:

Ryan doesn't want to just hand the job to Vick at this point, but it would be hard to imagine Vick not being the favorite to win the competition. We like Vick as a possible QB2.

Jets sign release Mark Sanchez, sign Mike Vick

Jets gave former Eagles QB Michael Vick a one-year, $5 million deal, per source.

Brian Costello reported that Mark Sanchez has been released.

Fantasy Impact:

The Jets seem to be in "win-now" mode and it looks like Vick may have the inside track to start over sophomore Geno Smith. Vick will have the newly acquired Eric Decker to throw to. If he's starting, he'll be a QB2 in Marty Mornhinweg's offense.

Just talked to QB Michael Vick. As expected, his career will continue elsewhere. Very badly wants chance to start in 2014.

Michael Vick thinks Zach Ertz is destined for greatness
Wednesday, January 29, 2014, 11:52am

Philly Mag - [Full Article]

Back in early October, Eagles QB Michael Vick made a bold prediction regarding rookie tight end Zach Ertz.

“There are three players that I told that they would be great players in this league: I always told Alge Crumpler that he was going to be great, I always told Shady McCoy that he was going to be a great player in this league, and I always told Roddy White. And now I’m saying Zach Ertz. And I think in time, he will be one of the best tight ends in this game.”

Ertz had all of five NFL catches at that point. Still working through a learning curve — steepened by his inability to participate in the offseason program because of graduation rules — the Stanford product played a limited role initially. He was featured more as the year went on and ended with 36 catches for 469 yards with four touchdowns. While we still have a ways to go before determining whether Vick’s intuition is correct, it’s fair to say that there are encouraging signs.

Fantasy Impact:

Ertz averaged 2.8-32-.56 over the final nine games of the season (including the Eagles' sole playoff game) and that included two goose eggs in Week 10 and Week 14. That equates to 6.6 fantasy points per game, which is what Martellus Bennett averaged as the #10 TE in fantasy football. Brent Celek is signed through 2016 and he's a far better run blocker than Ertz. James Casey is signed through 2015, and he ate into Ertz's snaps when the Eagles tried to run more. Ertz has top 5 fantasy TE potential, but his run blocking is holding him back.

Nick Foles claims starting QB job

Eagles HC Chip Kelly said QB Nick Foles is the starter and doesn't need to look over his shoulder if he has a bad game.

Fantasy Impact:

Michael Vick is back healthy and will backup Foles this week against the Cardinals. But the good news for Foles' owners is there is no more worry about Vick taking the job. Vick even said last week that Foles has earned the job the rest of the way. Foles had one awful game against the Cowboys this season but bounced back from that to throw 7 TDs against the Raiders. We've had Foles as a mid-range QB1 in some recent starts and that will likely continue.

Michael Vick expected back for Week 13

Chip Kelly: QB Michael Vick probably could have played Sunday if we needed him. Hoping he'll be full go after the bye.

Fantasy Impact:

Kelly added at his Monday presser that he'll sit down with both QBs to discuss who is going to start. Seems unlikely the team will go back to Vick with Nick Foles playing so well. Even Vick, himself, last week said he doesn't want to be a distraction. Either way, it's a situation to at least monitor, and it could drag out because the Eagles have a bye this week.

Philly.com - [Full Article]

During an interview with The Inquirer, Michael Vick said he did not know if he was still the Eagles' No. 1 quarterback. But sources close to the 33-year old have said that even when Vick returns, they expect Nick Foles to remain the starter.

Fantasy Impact:

This is not really news, but it should put Foles's owners at ease. Other than a tough outing against the Cowboys, Foles has played very well as the starter.

Philly.com - [Full Article]

Saying that the last thing he wants "to be is a distraction," Eagles QB Michael Vick spoke to The Inquirer on Tuesday about the possibility that he may no longer be the Eagles' starting quarterback.

Vick has missed the last two games after he re-aggravated his hamstring in the first quarter of the N.Y. Giants game. In his place, Nick Foles has bounced back from a disappointing performance against the Cowboys and led the Eagles to back-to-back victories.

While Chip Kelly has not deemed Foles his starter, he did intimate on Monday that he planned to stick with the hot hand. But until Vick is 100 percent, there has been no reason for him to name his starter. Vick was limited at practice on Tuesday and isn't expected to be ready for Sunday's game against the Redskins.

Can confirm Jason Lacanfora report that Eagles will sign KR/QB Brad Smith, pending physical.

Fantasy Impact:

The Eagles have long struggled to find a kick returner and Damaris Johnson has not been impressive. Smith could also provide depth at QB over the next couple of weeks since Michael Vick doesn't appear to be coming back all that soon.

CBS Philly - [Full Article]

Eagles HC Chip Kelly made sure to correct what he felt was a misconception about WR Riley Cooper, who over the last two weeks has caught a combined eight passes for 241 yards and five touchdowns.

“I don’t think [Cooper] struggled in his first five games getting open, I don’t think he had the ball thrown to him, but I don’t think he was struggling getting open,” Kelly said. “When you watch the tape, he was open. I think we have more time to throw, and we’re doing a better job with protection. I think the guy calling plays is calling better plays. Riley is really, really good at tracking the ball. It’s one of his qualities, he can track a ball in the air.”

Fantasy Impact:

What he's trying to say, and what the stats tell us, is Nick Foles is getting Cooper the ball where Michael Vick wasn't. Foles and Cooper have connected 15 times for 393 yards and six TDs in just over four games.

Eagles HC Chip Kelly not ready to name QB Nick Foles the starter the rest of the season. Said the week-to-week way he's operating now is working.

Fantasy Impact:

There's not much point to naming Foles the starter the rest of the way with Michael Vick still a week or two away from even possibly coming back. In fact, reports around Philly say he tore his hamstring and it's possible he could be done for the year. Obviously those are just rumors right now, but with Vick still out at least for now, it's a decision Kelly doesn't have to worry about. Kelly did acknowledge that Foles 16 TDs to 0 INT is working pretty well right now...
