It didn’t take long for Kris Durham to establish himself as the Detroit Lions’ No. 2 receiver.

Signed off the practice squad Tuesday, Durham started in his first career game with the Lions, caught four passes for 54 yards -- more than he had in three games as a rookie with the Seahawks last year -- and played 78 of 84 offensive snaps in Sunday night's loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Durham, who played three years with Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford at Georgia, was on the field more than every Lion but Stafford, Calvin Johnson and the starting offensive line.

Fantasy Impact:

That also includes WR Mike Thomas, who many thought would easily earn the starting WR job with no more Nate Burleson, Ryan Broyles or Titus Young. Durham made some mistakes, but there's some value there for a guy who played that many snaps in an offense that likes to throw the ball. This time of year, fantasy playoffs, would be a tough part of the season to trust him in your lineup, though.

Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan is optimistic his young receivers can get something going tonight in Lambeau Field.

"They're all very capable," Linehan said. "I'm very excited for their opportunity. They're all guys that are in the NFL for a reason. All of them have been drafted and been with other teams and now with ours. They all have unique skill sets. Mike Thomas has got speed, and we're going to play him some in some different positions. He'll be able to, I think, take over some of our slot since we've lost our two slot receivers. Brian Robiskie's been a guy that's a very good route runner, a student of the game, excellent hands.

"And then Kris Durham, he's the guy that we brought in. We had very good grades on him coming out of college and ended up going to Seattle, and then, when he was available, brought him in knowing that he was going to give us a receiver with size. We got Calvin, but to be able have a receiver 6-foot-5 on the outside that can build speed down the field, I think gives us another dimension that we haven't had on the field. So I think all three of them bring something pretty unique to the table."

Lions coach Jim Schwartz said WR Titus Young will have knee surgery "unless he doesn't show up for it."

Fantasy Impact:

Mike Thomas figures to fill the role of WR2 with both Young and Ryan Broyles out.

Titus Young placed on IR, done for year

The Detroit Lions have placed wide receiver Titus Young on injured reserve.

The move effectively ends Young's season.

Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said Monday a move with Young was forthcoming, and he would make the news public. Just over 24 hours later, Young has been shelved for the season with the team citing a knee injury.

Fantasy Impact:

Looks like Young's career as a Lion is over. As for this season, Mike Thomas was named the starter opposite Calvin Johnson, and has a pretty clear path the rest of the season as the Lions WR2. He should have some value in an offense that certainly uses the pass more than the run.

Mike Thomas will start for Lions

Detroit Free Press - [Full Article]

Mike Thomas has been thrust into the role as the Lions’ No. 2 receiver.

Thomas played sparingly the first three weeks after the trade, but he caught two passes and scored a touchdown in a Thanksgiving loss to the Houston Texans and he saw his most extensive action of the season – 70 snaps – in Sunday’s loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Fantasy Impact:

Thomas could be a sneaky play this week against the Packers in what may be a high-scoring game, or one where the Lions will have to play from behind. Thomas said he's just starting to find a rhythm with QB Matt Stafford, so by the end of the year Thomas could be a very usable option, especially in deeper leagues. Kris Durham has come off the practice squad and could also see some snaps.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz: WR Ryan Boyles tore right ACL, out for the year.

Fantasy Impact:

It's not the same ACL he torn in college. It's also not expected that Titus Young gets his job back, so it looks Mike Thomas will get a chance to be the starter according to the team. Thomas played starter snaps last week but only managed one catch for negative yardage. Tony Scheffler & Brandon Pettigrew should see more targets.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz said it’s “too soon to tell” whether WR Titus Young will be active for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts after he didn’t attend last week’s Thanksgiving loss to the Houston Texans.

“We’ll see, as we get later in the week, who we think the best 46 to play the Colts are and if he’s one of them, he will,” Schwartz said. “If not, then he’ll go back to work and work the next week.”

One of the Lions’ most talented receivers when he’s right, Young has drawn the ire of coaches and teammates for his selfish behavior on the field.

In a loss to the Green Bay Packers two weeks ago, he purposely lined up in the wrong spot on the field multiple times and mouthed off to receivers coach Shawn Jefferson on the sideline before being removed for the game’s final series.

Fantasy Impact:

Young is now behind Ryan Broyles and Mike Thomas in the pecking order, so he may not be able to contribute very much for the remainder of the season. He can be cut in most formats.

Titus Young returns to practice

WR Titus Young was back at Lions practice today. Took 2nd team reps in portion open to media, went last in most WR drills.

Fantasy Impact:

It appears that Young has lost his place in the WR pecking order. Expect him to play WR3 or WR4 snaps behind Ryan Broyles and perhaps Mike Thomas.

No timetable for Titus Young's return

Detroit Lions receiver Titus Young may rejoin the team one day.

However, Lions coach Jim Schwartz does not appear ready for it to happen anytime soon.

Schwartz was asked when Young, who was sent home last week after his insubordinate actions, would return to Allen Park after today's practice. Young did not participate in today's practice, and is unclear when he will again.

Fantasy Impact:

Schwartz didn't rule out the possibility that Young doesn't play again this season. Ryan Broyles will likely start with Mike Thomas also seeing action.

Lions WR Titus Young is out for Thanksgiving Day. He was suspended by the team and is considered week to week. Rookie Ryan Broyles and recently acquired Mike Thomas will see more snaps and targets with Young out of the game. Neither are great plays against the Texans, but could be useful down the stretch against the Colts and Packers.

Mike Thomas to start at WR for Lions
Tuesday, November 20, 2012, 10:23am

Detroit Free Press - [Full Article]

Veteran Mike Thomas, acquired by the Lions in a trade last month from Jacksonville, is expected to start at outside receiver against the Texans, with rookie Ryan Broyles staying in the slot.

Fantasy Impact:

Thomas used to be a pretty good PPR receiver during his days with the Jags and would have some potential here in the Lions pass-heavy offense. This week's matchup (Thanksgiving Day) is against the Texnas, who were torched by the Jags last week, but are still a very good defense. Thomas could have some value, but also comes with risk. He's starting in place of Titus Young, who lined up on the wrong side several times last week against the Packers and is inactive for at least this week. Better to take a wait-and-see approach with Thomas and Young and this whole situation.

Titus Young will not play Thursday for Lions
Monday, November 19, 2012, 6:49pm

Detroit Free Press - [Full Article]

Lions WR Titus Young was sent home from the Lions’ practice facility today and coach Jim Schwartz said he will not play in Thursday’s Thanksgiving game against the Houston Texans as punishment for repeated on-field issues that culminated in Sunday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. Schwartz would not term the punishment a suspension, but he said Young probably won’t practice again Tuesday and will be re-evaluated on a week-to-week basis.

Young was benched for the Lions’ final possession Sunday after Fox TV cameras caught Lions receivers coach Shawn Jefferson yelling at offensive coordinator Scott Linehan to remove Young from the game. Young caught just one pass in six attempts, had penalties on back-to-back third-quarter plays and lined up in the wrong position on a key second-down play late in the fourth quarter when Gosder Cherilus was called for a false start.

Fantasy Impact:

Rookie Ryan Broyles and recently acquired Mike Thomas will see more snaps and targets with Young out of the game. Neither are great plays against the Texans, but could be useful down the stretch against the Colts and Packers.
