Mark Sanchez Fantasy News
Mark Sanchez signs with Eagles
Thursday, March 27, 2014, 12:52pm
He will back up Nick Foles this season and provide a more veteran presence than Matt Barkley. The Eagles have had success over the years turning project QBs into value, and that could end up being the case here with Sanchez as he gets to work with HC Chip Kelly. Sanchez is coming off a right shoulder injury that kept him out last season.

Jets sign release Mark Sanchez, sign Mike Vick

Brian Costello reported that Mark Sanchez has been released.
Tuesday, October 8, 2013, 8:23pm
The surgery, which will end Sanchez's season, was performed by Dr. James Andrews, whom Sanchez has consulted over the past weeks.
Sanchez's rehab attempt didn't work out so he's finished for 2013 and likely played his last game as a NY Jet with the emergence of Geno Smith.
Mark Sanchez goes to short term IR
Saturday, September 14, 2013, 1:25pm
As quarterback Mark Sanchez feared, the New York Jets have placed him on injured reserve with a dislocated shoulder and possible torn labrum, but there's a catch – the Jets have designated him to return, using their one IR exemption on a backup quarterback who doesn't fit into their plans.
The story says the team would like to get something out of Sanchez this year, but with Geno Smith playing pretty well in team's first two games, the job is clearly his going forward. Smith gives the Jets a much better chance and also has a better fantasy upside. He's probably not QB2 material most weeks, but could be worth owning in deeper leagues.

It looks like Geno Smith will start for the foreseeable future. He fared pretty well against an improved Bucs pass defense.

With Mark Sanchez still hurting, Brady will be the team's third QB. And with the signing coming after Week 1, his contract is not guaranteed.

Geno Smith may be the Jets starting quarterback against Darrelle Revis and the Bucs, but there is no guarantee he’ll be starting anything beyond that. The Jets unleashed their triple threat Wednesday -- Rex Ryan, GM John Idzik and owner Woody Johnson -- and from every angle they made it clear that the competition is continuing into the regular season.
“We’ll always put the best player we can on the field on Sunday, and that will continue,” Johnson said. “The competition’s ongoing.”
“Competition is our mantra,” Idzik said. “It’s really a mindset with us. “Competition will always be ongoing, no matter where you are on the roster.”
Ryan was asked if the starting quarterback position was going to evaluated on a week-to-week basis.
“Our focus is strictly on this game,” Ryan said. “So whether week-to-week, I don’t know what the heck, we’re not thinking past Tampa. This whole team is not thinking past Tampa in anything.”
This sounds like 'coachspeak' meant to let the rookie Smith know that the job isn't being handed to him. Barring a disaster, it would be surprising if the Jets turned back to Sanchez after their QB of the future gets a few starts under his belt. Mark Sanchez will sit out Week 1 (and beyond) with a shoulder injury.
Mark Sanchez expected to miss first two weeks
Wednesday, September 4, 2013, 11:09am
It could be a while before Mark Sanchez is capable of even throwing a football again.
The Jets quarterback’s shoulder injury is significant enough he is expected to miss the first two weeks of the regular season and may be out longer, according to a source.
It's an opportunity for rookie Geno Smith to seize hold of the starting gig, but he's working with an inferior receiving corps. Fantasy-wise, Smith is not an attractive option until he proves he's an NFL-caliber starter.
