Minneapolis Star-Tribune - [Full Article]

Matt Cassel will start at quarterback in the Vikings’ season finale against the Lions on Sunday, with Christian Ponder as the backup. Josh Freeman is expected to be inactive for the ninth time in 12 games since joining the Vikings.

“I don’t know what would change that as the week goes on, but that’s the thought process as we speak,” coach Leslie Frazier said Monday.

Fantasy Impact:

Cassel had his worst game this season in Sunday’s 42-14 loss at Cincinnati. He was 13 of 27 for 114 yards with a touchdown, three interceptions and a fumble. Frazier will stick with Cassel, who has the option to become an unrestricted free agent during the offseason. As the story points out, Ponder is signed for 2014 and Freeman can become a free agent.

Vikings QB Christian Ponder (concussion) is cleared to play.

Fantasy Impact:

We'll see if Ponder gets the start this week as Matt Cassel again played pretty well with Ponder out. It's a decent matchup on paper but the Eagles defense is somewhat improved despite its ranking. Whoever the starter is may have to throw a bit more with the statuses of RBs Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart in question.

Christian Ponder suffers concussion
Sunday, December 1, 2013, 8:50pm

ESPN - [Full Article]

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder left the team's game with the Chicago Bears with a concussion just before halftime, and his status for next week is up in the air.

Ponder took a helmet-to-helmet hit on a two-yard completion to Greg Jennings near the end of the first half, and went to the locker room without his helmet to be evaluated.

Fantasy Impact:

After Ponder left the game, Matt Cassel led a 10-point comeback in the fourth quarter and eventually directed the Vikings to a 23-20 overtime win. Cassel threw for 243 yards in relief of Ponder. Josh Freeman would be the backup to Cassel if Ponder misses time. But it's a tough matchup at Baltimore in Week 14.

At least Vikings coach Leslie Frazier won't have to make a quarterback announcement Monday.

Or Wednesday. Or Thursday. Or Friday.

One positive for the Vikings that came out of Sunday's 26-26 tie against the Packers at Lambeau Field was their quarterback situation is settled. At least for this week.

But Christian Ponder did enough against the Packers to again get the nod next Sunday against Chicago at the Metrodome.

Fantasy Impact:

As the story pointed out, nearly each week this season, there has been some suspense about who would start at quarterback. Frazier has waited until mid to late week to make his announcement but that won't be the case this week. The Vikings take on the Bears who were torched by the Rams in Week 12.

Vikings WR Greg Jennings had expected to play today but left Achilles still sore “It didn’t heal as well as we thought,’’ said Jennings who woke up sore.

Fantasy Impact:

Jennings is expected to play next week. After QB Christian Ponder was benched in favor of Matt Cassel, we'll have to wait and see who will be throwing him the ball in Week 12.

ESPN - [Full Article]

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder said his dislocated left shoulder continues to feel better.

Ponder also said he expects to play Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, provided his shoulder keeps improving throughout the week.

Ponder dislocated his shoulder while diving for the end zone on a 13-yard run last Thursday against the Washington Redskins, but an MRI showed no further damage to his shoulder.

Fantasy Impact:

A final decision is expected later this week. Either way, it's not a great matchup to have Ponder in your lineup. The Seahawks are the toughest aFPA matchup for quarterbacks. Ponder may not even hold QB2 value when our rankings come out later today.
