The Rams had four wide receivers and a safety in for free-agent workouts Tuesday. But all were in on an evaluation basis only, for future consideration if the Rams need to replace injured or under-performing players.
The wide receivers, with their most recent NFL teams in parenthesis: Derek Hagan (Giants), Jason Hill (San Francisco), Demetrius Williams (Baltimore), and Paul Williams (Tennessee). The free safety in Tuesday was Al Afalava (Chicago).
The Tennessee Titans waived the following players to reach the 53-player roster limit: DE Larry Birdine, LB Rocky Boiman, TE Casey Cramer, CB Tanard Davis, G Ryan Durand, CB DeMarcus Faggins, FB Rodney Ferguson, LB Ryan Fowler, RB Quinton Ganther (injured), S Tuff Harris, WR Mark Jones, DT Mitch King, T Cory Lekkerkerker, WR Phillip Morris, TE Matthew Mulligan, G Jason Murphy, DT LaJuan Ramsey, S Nick Schommer, LB Josh Stamer, P A.J. Trapasso, OL Fernando Velasco and WR Paul Williams.
The move leaves the team without an experienced return man for the regular season opener at Pittsburgh on Thursday night. Several other players have also been informed of their release on Friday as well, including receiver Paul Williams, a third round draft pick by the team in 2007, and veteran fullback Casey Cramer.

Vince Young was the Titans' starting QB a year ago. Now, he's fighting for the backup job. Young took the field in the second quarter and four plays later he threw an interception. But Young regrouped, and just before halftime, the fourth-year veteran threw a perfect pass to WR Paul Williams in the corner of the end zone that put the Titans up, 21-3. Young played one more series in the third quarter and finished 5-of-10 for 39 yards.
They’re the forgotten members of the receiving corps, two draft picks from 2007 whose uphill climb got even steeper of late. One is Paul Williams, the other Chris Davis. Neither has to be reminded of their current status after the Titans signed veteran WR Nate Washington in March and then used their 1st round draft pick on another wideout, Kenny Britt. “Once I heard we’d taken a receiver in the 1st round it was one of those things like, ‘OK, it’s time to work,’ ’’ said Williams, a 3rd-round pick in ’07. “But really, any time you are in this building there is a sense of urgency. I was ready to work anyway.’’ Davis, a 4rth-round pick that year, also knows the feeling of standing on unsteady ground. Williams and Davis certainly have no time to waste, but an argument could be made that they already wasted the past 2 seasons. The Titans needed playmakers at the position, yet neither could be counted on.
