Kregg Lumpkin Fantasy News

Tuesday, December 18, 2012, 9:19am

New York Daily News - [Full Article]

Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw said he is “planning on going this week.”

HC Tom Coughlin, however, said: “I’m not sure about that. I medically do not have that kind of feedback yet.”

Fantasy Impact:

We'll see who wins out on this battle. Unfortunately, it could be headed to a game-time call for Bradshaw, and, the Giants play at Baltimore in a late afternoon game. David Wilson would see an increased workload, but newly signed RB Kregg Lumpkin got nine carries last week as well. Seems like the best option would be owning Bradshaw and Wilson heading into this week's games. It would be a pretty decent matchup against a Raven defense that can give up yards on the ground. LB Ray Lewis is expected back, though.

Ahmad Bradshaw unlikely to play in Week 15
Friday, December 14, 2012, 10:45am

Newsday - [Full Article]

The Giants have not changed RB Ahmad Bradshaw's status for Sunday, but he missed a second straight practice Thursday and seems unlikely to play against Atlanta. OC Kevin Gilbride said the Giants would lose an emotional leader and a lot of toughness without him on the field. Bradshaw, however, holds out hope of playing. "You listen to him, he's not sure it's lost," Gilbride said. "But we'll see."

The New York Daily News added this: Tom Coughlin refused to rule anything out on Wednesday, and there is still one more day of practice this week, but Bradshaw wasn't even in the fieldhouse when the Giants began practicing on Thursday. He's missed the last two days due to his sprained left knee, and it is believed that rookie David Wilson will end up starting in his place against the Falcons.

Fantasy Impact:

David Wilson would be a nice start if Bradshaw is out. The Falcons are #23 in RB aFPA, so the matchup is pretty good. He'd be in store for a big workload with Kregg Lumpkin as his backup.

Giants are in fact signing RB Ryan Torain as well.

Fantasy Impact:

The team signed Kregg Lumpkin as well. It seems as though they are covering themselves in case David Wilson remains in Tom Coughlin's doghouse.

Giants will sign free agent RB Kregg Lumpkin today.

Fantasy Impact:

Lumpkin shouldn't have much fantasy value as he'll be behind Ahmad Bradshaw and David Wilson. But one has to wonder, what if Wilson continues to fumble and drop passes? Lumpkin's still not worth picking up, at least right now.

Marshawn Lynch owners need not be nervous. Lumpkin is a backup at best.

ESPN.com - [Full Article]

Buccaneers RB LeGarrette Blount said he was hoping to become more of an every-down back after Earnest Graham went down with a season-ending injury. But that didn’t happen Sunday in New Orleans. The Bucs simply plugged Kregg Lumpkin into Graham’s role on passing downs, and Blount was limited to playing mostly on running downs. Blount hasn’t been able to convince the coaches he’s ready to handle pass protections. If he can’t do that by the midpoint of his second season, it makes you wonder whether he ever will be able to handle that role.

Fantasy Impact:

Blount figures to post better numbers in games in which the Bucs don't figure to fall behind early. If Tampa Bay has to go to a pass-heavy attack, Blount's snaps will be cut way back.

Bucs RB Graham out for the year
Tuesday, October 25, 2011, 10:42am

St. Petersburg Times - [Full Article]

Earnest Graham, the veteran backup who became the starter in LeGarrette Blount's absence during the past two games, suffered a torn Achilles' tendon in the loss to the Bears and almost certainly will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

The injury requires surgery and extensive rehab, a tall order for a 31-year-old running back.

The Bucs will be looking to address the position during this much-needed bye week, with Kregg Lumpkin — who struggled in relief of Graham — the only healthy back on the active roster.

On Sunday, Lumpkin gained 15 yards on eight carries, 1.9 yards per carry, and the Bucs rushed for a season-low 30 yards.

Fantasy Impact:

The Bucs don't have a lot of options outside of Lumpkin, who is more of a third-down back than anything. Look for the team, who is on a bye this week, to make a move in preparation for their game on Nov. 6. Whomever they sign could end up having at least some fantasy value, especially for Blount owners.

Buccaneers RB Earnest Graham, who started in place of injured lead back LeGarrette Blount, injured his right ankle and did not return to the game. Erik Lorig, who replaced Graham at fullback, injured his right shoulder.

With Kregg Lumpkin as their only healthy back, the Bucs were forced to throw the ball more than planned.

The Bucs are hopeful he and Blount will play against the Saints in two weeks.

Report: LeGarrette Blount has a torn MCL
Friday, October 14, 2011, 10:12am

Bucs Scene - [Full Article]

It is being reported the Tampa Bay Bucs have lost running back LeGarrette Blount for at least a few weeks with an MCL sprain in his knee. Blount suffered the injury when he was nailed on his knee against the San Francisco 49ers.

Local radio broadcaster J.P. Peterson first reported Blount had suffered an MCL Grade 2 tear and would be out for four-to-six weeks. Normally Grade 2 tears takes four to six weeks to heal according to UCSF.com.

But here is where it gets interesting: the Bucs released running back Allen Bradford on Thursday. Bradford had been inactive for the team’s first four games before being activated in last Sunday’s contest. Bradford was the team’s sixth-round draft pick in April’s NFL Draft.

Yet, Bradford’s departure leaves the Bucs with just two running backs — Earnest Graham and Kregg Lumpkin — along with fullback/tight end Erik Lorig.

Fantasy Impact:

Four weeks of recovery would mean that Blount would miss Weeks 6 & 7 and potentially return after the Buccaneeers' bye in Week 8. Earnest Graham will take over for the time being with Kregg Lumpkin rotating in.

Tampa Bay Online - [Full Article]

The next man up for LeGarrette Blount seems pretty cut and dried. Morris suggested the Bucs would probably lean more on Earnest Graham as their lead ball carrier and on Kregg Lumpkin as their third-down specialist, as well as incorporate rookie Allen Bradford into the offense.

Bucs hint that RB Blount may be out next week
Monday, October 10, 2011, 6:13pm

St. Petersburg Times - [Full Article]

Bucs coach Raheem Morris said, "I don't want to rule (LeGarrette Blount) out, but I'm not looking at him. It is what it is. Next man up. I'd like to get more detailed information on him. I'll call him day-to-day for now."

Blount went down in the third quarter after making a 29 yard catch from Freeman and getting tackled at the knees by D Goldson. He did not return. If Blount can't go, Earnest Graham will get a bulk of the carries. Kregg Lumpkin and Allen Bradford will also get some carries.

Fantasy Impact:

Coaches pretty much have to plan that way, but it doesn't sound as if Blount is going to play against the Saints. Fantasy owners should do the same and plan not to have Blount in your lineup this week. We'll keep updating you on the situation.
