It does not look like Ravens tight end Crockett Gillmore or cornerback Maurice Canady will be missing the entire year. Both players hurt their knees late last week and coach John Harbaugh provided an update on their condition Sunday.

“They have cartilage tears that are not season-ending usually,” Harbaugh said, via the team’s website. “But they’re going in and getting opinions on Monday, so we’ll find out for sure.”

The Ravens signed former Giants tight end Larry Donnell on Sunday to fill in for Gillmore as well as the injured Dennis Pitta and suspended Darren Waller.

Giants TE Larry Donnell (concussion, out) missed practice all week and is out for Week 5. Will Tye should get the opportunity to play starter’s snaps against a shaky Green Bay pass defense. He caught four passes for 43 yards on six targets while playing 79% of the snaps (a season high) in Week 4, and that was against a tough Minnesota defense. Last year, Tye essentially took over as the Giants’ starter in Week 8, and was the #13 tight end in standard formats from that point on. From Week 9 to Week 17, he had the 10th-most targets at his position. The Giants didn’t have Sterling Shepard or Victor Cruz last year, but TE streamers could do a lot worse this week, assuming Donnell remains out.

Giants TEs making plays; team using two-TE sets

Tuesday, August 9, 2016, 6:05pm

ESPN - [Full Article]

Lost in the brilliance of Odell Beckham Jr. and the emergence of Sterling Shepard have been the New York Giants tight ends. Larry Donnell and Will Tye, last year’s starters, have flown under the radar.

It’s not as if they’re not making plays. Every day it seems Donnell, Tye and even Matt LaCosse are catching balls with the first-team offense. But with the reps split between the three, there haven’t been many days with dominant tight end performances.

Fantasy Impact:

It served as a reminder that the Giants may have their deepest group of tight ends in recent years. Donnell, Tye and LaCosse have all looked good as receivers this summer. They have looked serviceable as blockers, the story said.. Donnell is trying to get back to full speed. He fractured his neck last season and the Giants thought he was playing a little slow in the spring. He’s been playing faster this summer, and he was moving well on Tuesday. The story added the Giants are adapting and using many two-TE sets in practice as well as moving around their TEs. Tye has even lined up as a WR.

Larry Donnell makes early impression

Everyone wanted to see the Giants’ high-profile wide receivers perform in public today, so naturally tight end Larry Donnell all but stole the show.

Donnell made several catches in the first training camp workout fans were permitted to attend. It was a satisfying performance for a player who missed the second half of the 2015 season with a neck injury.

Fantasy Impact:

Donnell may have to knock off Will Tye for the Giants TE1 spot. Tye took over when Donnell got hurt and played well last season, and Tye has also looked good in the spring. This will be a camp battle to watch if Donnell continues to impress.

Giants Beat: Will Tye has 'early edge' at TE

Sunday, July 24, 2016, 10:52am

NJ.com - [Full Article]

Both Larry Donnell and Will Tye should make the roster at TE for the Giants. Right now, the early edge for the starting job should belong to Tye, who is a better blocker than Donnell and showed better ball security last season.

Fantasy Impact:

This continues to fall in line with early talk out of the Giants camp, but we'll have to get through training camp in order to have a better idea of this situation. Remember Donnell had the job last year before a season-ending neck injury in Week 8. Whoever wins the job will certainly have some fantasy value as Eli Manning has always targeted the position in the red zone.
