Julio Jones to be limited in early workouts

"Julio is participating with our athletic performance department,'' Smith said Tuesday. "He will be able to get out on the field and do some walkthrough stuff with us when we start going. Our focus on Julio is one thing, and that's having him prepared for our opener. ... He's progressing well. We're not going to do anything to hinder his timeframe in terms of getting back to work with us."
Jones injured his foot in Week 5 of last season and missed the remainder of the 2013 campaign. Smith previously said Jones was ahead of schedule in his recovery, but the coach never put a timetable on when Jones would start running routes again.
Jones has the potential to be one of the most productive receivers in the league, but the foot injury is a bit concerning, especially since it’s a broken bone in the same location as his pre-Draft injury. If he plays a full season, he’ll very likely finish in the top 5. He's currently the #6 WR off the board in the early 2nd round.

"As much as I like Allen, to ask him to improve dramatically in one season may be asking too much. He's a really good receiver, but he does not have the athletic ability of an A.J. Green or a Julio Jones. He could be close to his ceiling already.
Williamson added that Allen is an advanced route runner and has good hands, just lacks speed. He pointed out that teams will have another year to study him, too. Still, Allen was really the only WR threat on the Bolts last year, but put up nice numbers despite getting the full attention of defenses. He should fall in the WR2 or 3 zone with potential to exceed that in certain matchups.

Jones should be back to being one of the top-ranked fantasy receivers in drafts this summer, but he's coming off his second foot injury already.

Jones's foot fracture is worrisome since it happened at the same spot of his previous fracture that happened during the draft process.

Roddy White may miss Week 7
Wednesday, October 9, 2013, 11:09am
With Julio Jones fully expected to be out a while, the Falcons desperately need White to play. If he is out, Harry Douglas will be the most experienced WR on the field for Atlanta, with Drew Davis and Kevin Cone both seeing big increases in playing time. Matt Ryan's stock has taken a big hit, but expect Tony Gonzalez to see more targets than ever.

Report: Falcons fear Julio Jones out for season
Tuesday, October 8, 2013, 1:44pm
The latest reports say Jones broke the screw that was put in his foot in his 2011 surgery, which obviously doesn't sound good. But, the good news for the Falcons is they have a Week 6 BYE to get Roddy White and Steven Jackson healthy. If Julio is indeed lost for the season, this would obviously be a huge blow to Matt Ryan and the entire offense. When Jones missed time in 2011, Harry Douglas saw an increase in snaps (from an average of 33 to 51), but the Falcons may elect to use Drew Davis and Kevin Cone and keep Douglas in the slot. Expect Ryan to lean even more heavily on veteran TE Tony Gonzalez and the run game, so this could be a good thing for Steven Jackson, if he can stay healthy. For now, Douglas looks like the best pickup in the Atlanta receiving corps.

Darlington's tweet said it was a lower right leg and/or foot from what he could tell. The Falcons have a Week 6 bye.

Jones has a better chance to play and be effective. White suffered a bit of a setback last week playing a ton of snaps in a loss to New England. Because it's a Monday night game, Jones and White are a lot riskier plays.
