Julio Jones to be limited in early workouts
Tuesday, April 22, 2014, 4:06pm

ESPN - [Full Article]

Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith said Julio Jones' participation in offseason workouts will be limited as the team continues to monitor the wide receiver's status coming off foot surgery.

"Julio is participating with our athletic performance department,'' Smith said Tuesday. "He will be able to get out on the field and do some walkthrough stuff with us when we start going. Our focus on Julio is one thing, and that's having him prepared for our opener. ... He's progressing well. We're not going to do anything to hinder his timeframe in terms of getting back to work with us."

Jones injured his foot in Week 5 of last season and missed the remainder of the 2013 campaign. Smith previously said Jones was ahead of schedule in his recovery, but the coach never put a timetable on when Jones would start running routes again.

Fantasy Impact:

Jones has the potential to be one of the most productive receivers in the league, but the foot injury is a bit concerning, especially since it’s a broken bone in the same location as his pre-Draft injury. If he plays a full season, he’ll very likely finish in the top 5. He's currently the #6 WR off the board in the early 2nd round.

ESPN's Matt Williamson talked about Chargers WR Keenan Allen:

"As much as I like Allen, to ask him to improve dramatically in one season may be asking too much. He's a really good receiver, but he does not have the athletic ability of an A.J. Green or a Julio Jones. He could be close to his ceiling already.

Fantasy Impact:

Williamson added that Allen is an advanced route runner and has good hands, just lacks speed. He pointed out that teams will have another year to study him, too. Still, Allen was really the only WR threat on the Bolts last year, but put up nice numbers despite getting the full attention of defenses. He should fall in the WR2 or 3 zone with potential to exceed that in certain matchups.

Falcons coach Mike Smith said wide receiver Julio Jones is running and is ahead of schedule at the owner’s meeting in Orlando today, the team said.

Fantasy Impact:

Jones should be back to being one of the top-ranked fantasy receivers in drafts this summer, but he's coming off his second foot injury already.

WR Julio Jones is rehabbing and doing well, per Falcons owner Arthur Blank.

Fantasy Impact:

Jones's foot fracture is worrisome since it happened at the same spot of his previous fracture that happened during the draft process.

Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff said the team is looking forward to signing Roddy White to a contract extension.

Fantasy Impact:

With an offseason to improve his ankle and the return of Julio Jones to the other side, the Falcons offense should be back in 2014. However, RB Steven Jackson will be another year older and we can only assume TE Tony Gonzalez does not return.

Falcons RB Jason Snelling is back at practice today.

Fantasy Impact:

He's back from a concussion and with Steve Jackson looking like he could be out again, Snelling would split work with Jacquizz Rodgers. Also, with Julio Jones out, and possibly Roddy White, too, the Falcons may run the ball a bit more.

Falcons RB Steven Jackson still an observer at practice Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact:

The Falcons are coming off a bye week so it's an early practice. Jacquizz Rodgers and Jason Snelling would again split up the workload this week if Jackson has to sit out. And with no Julio Jones and possible no Roddy White, they both could get a bump in touches.

Roddy White may miss Week 7

Falcons concerned WR Roddy White could miss at least one game, possibly more, due to left hamstring he pulled Monday night.

Fantasy Impact:

With Julio Jones fully expected to be out a while, the Falcons desperately need White to play. If he is out, Harry Douglas will be the most experienced WR on the field for Atlanta, with Drew Davis and Kevin Cone both seeing big increases in playing time. Matt Ryan's stock has taken a big hit, but expect Tony Gonzalez to see more targets than ever.

I've seen a lot of tweets with rumors that Falcons should trade TE Tony Gonzalez. Just got off the phone with him, he absolutely does NOT want that. Wants to finish up in Atlanta.

Fantasy Impact:

With the Falcons sitting at 1-4 and presumably losing WR Julio Jones for the year, that's not a lot of hope in Atlanta. Going forward, Gonzalez should be pretty busy picking up extra targets if he in fact does stay.

Report: Falcons fear Julio Jones out for season
Tuesday, October 8, 2013, 1:44pm

Jay Glazer, Twitter - [Full Article]

Falcons fear Julio Jones likely out for the rest of the year with a foot injury. Initial diagnosis is that Julio Jones season is over. Falcons sending him for 2nd opinion but they are pessimistic.

Fantasy Impact:

The latest reports say Jones broke the screw that was put in his foot in his 2011 surgery, which obviously doesn't sound good. But, the good news for the Falcons is they have a Week 6 BYE to get Roddy White and Steven Jackson healthy. If Julio is indeed lost for the season, this would obviously be a huge blow to Matt Ryan and the entire offense. When Jones missed time in 2011, Harry Douglas saw an increase in snaps (from an average of 33 to 51), but the Falcons may elect to use Drew Davis and Kevin Cone and keep Douglas in the slot. Expect Ryan to lean even more heavily on veteran TE Tony Gonzalez and the run game, so this could be a good thing for Steven Jackson, if he can stay healthy. For now, Douglas looks like the best pickup in the Atlanta receiving corps.

Adding injury to insult: I just saw Falcons WR Julio Jones limping out of the x-ray room for unknown reason.

Fantasy Impact:

Darlington's tweet said it was a lower right leg and/or foot from what he could tell. The Falcons have a Week 6 bye.

Fantasy Impact:

Stephen Hill's availability is a bit of a surprise, but it looks like he's good to go for Monday night. If he were questionable, we would avoid him, but the probable tag means he's virtually certain to play. He is a risk/reward start in a nice matchup with the Falcons.

Saturday, October 5, 2013, 8:20pm

Atlanta Journal-Constitution - [Full Article]

Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones (knee) and wide receiver Roddy White (ankle) were limited in practice.

Fantasy Impact:

Jones has a better chance to play and be effective. White suffered a bit of a setback last week playing a ton of snaps in a loss to New England. Because it's a Monday night game, Jones and White are a lot riskier plays.
