Players who did not look good in Jaguars OTAs:

WR Troy. Williamson: Was invisible much of camp. Could improve once they put the pads on, but might not make the team.

WR Nate Hughes: Was outplayed by most of the receivers and is a long shot going into training camp.

WR Kassim Osgood: Is a Pro Bowl special teams player, but struggled at wide receiver. Since he's 6-5, he might be better in pads.

TE Zachary Miller: Was sidelined with a foot injury and needs to recover in time for camp.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have placed rookie receiver Jarett Dillard on injured reserve and activated receiver Nate Hughes from the practice squad.

Dillard broke his right ankle in Jacksonville's 24-22 victory Sunday at the New York Jets. A fifth-round draft pick from Rice, Dillard caught six passes for 106 yards this season.

A couple of missed opportunities in Sunday's 31-17 loss to Arizona cost Jaguars receiver Nate Hughes a spot on the club's 53-man roster.

But a day after cutting him, the Jaguars signed the receiver to the practice squad. The club hasn't made an official announcement, but his agent, Glen Lansky, said the Hughes will rejoin the team today.

Despite fielding practice-squad offers from other teams, Hughes decided to return to Jacksonville.

"Nate felt like he had unfinished business in Jacksonville," Lansky said. "So he wanted to go back to prove that he belongs."

Hughes dropped two passes in the end zone in the fourth quarter on Sunday.

Jaguars' Williamson out for season

A day after the Jaguars lost their home opener to Arizona, the team learned that veteran WR TRoy Williamson will be out for the season with a torn labrum, and released wide receiver Nate Hughes, who dropped a key pass in the game.

A source close to Williamson revealed the severity of the receiver’s injury.

Williamson suffered the injury after catching an 11-yard pass in the second quarter. Williamson fumbled on the play and in the scramble for the loose ball, an Arizona player fell on the receiver’s shoulder.

Hughes dropped what would have been a touchdown pass (the ball bounced off his shoulder pads) in the fourth quarter with the Jaguars trailing 31-17.

Though the Jaguars haven't made an announcement about Hughes, his agent, Glen Lansky confirmed his release.

Four players are competing for two spots - that's the likely scenario at receiver - with the Jaguars set to finish the preseason.

Fifth-round pick Jarett Dillard figures to be a prominent player in the discussion, despite experiencing a case of the drops early in training camp. In fact, Dillard expects to make the final 53-man roster, saying the game has finally slowed down for him.

"I do [think I'll be on the roster]," Dillard said. "I'm very confident in what I've done and think I've shown some things in practice and games that I can play at this level."

It should be a tough decision for the Jaguars, considering the club typically keeps five receivers on the active roster. Torry Holt, TRoy Williamson and Mike Sims-Walker appear to be locks, meaning that Dillard will be competing with fellow rookies Tiquan Underwood and Mike Thomas, in addition to Nate Hughes, for two roster spots.

Four Jaguars' who didn't play in Philadelphia, tight end Zach Miller, running back Montell Owens, defensive tackle Rob Meier and cornerback Don Carey, remained sidelined.

Carey will probably be heading to the injured-reserve list with a shoulder injury. Miller might be a candidate for the list because he hasn't played since the first preseason game because of a knee injury.

Owens' status is up in the air. He's missed all three games with a knee injury.

The new players who were sidelined were safety Marlon McCree, who had a taped thigh, wide receiver Nate Hughes, who suffered a concussion in Philadelphia, and linebacker Adam Seward. Receiver Torry Holt was riding a bike at the start of practice.

Asante Samuel is in midseason form: Samuel always has been known as a playmaker, and that hasn't changed during the preseason. The veteran cornerback forced a fumble on the Eagles' 1 in the second quarter, knocking out Jaguars WR Nate Hughes on the play (the Jaguars picked up the fumble for a touchdown, but Hughes left the game with a concussion). On the Jaguars' next drive, Samuel intercepted a David Garrard pass intended for Torry Holt.
