Free agent WRs Santonio Holmes and Miles Austin are getting hurt by a deep wide receiver draft class. We've entered the phase of free agency where these guys are worth the risk at a bargain rate.

Fantasy Impact:

Sidney Rice is also available but may need to get medically cleared. There are certainly teams with needs at the position but it looks like going the route of the draft is going to be their first option.

Scott Brown, who covers the Steelers, was asked about their wide receivers:

"They seem committed to Markus Wheaton – or at least giving him every opportunity to win a starting job."

Fantasy Impact:

Brown made it seem like there is no interest in bringing back Santonio Holmes. He also said the draft is WR heavy that it makes more sense for the Steelers to draft one rather than bring in another veteran.

Jets release Santonio Holmes

ESPN New York - [Full Article]

After four turbulent seasons with the New York Jets, wide receiver Santonio Holmes is looking for a new team.

In a long-anticipated move, Holmes was released Monday after a second straight injury-plagued season. His lack of production, coupled with a $10.75 million salary-cap charge in 2014, were the primary reasons behind the Jets' decision.

Fantasy Impact:

If he's healthy and in a good system, Holmes has the talent to be a starting-caliber (top 36) fantasy receiver, but those are two pretty big "ifs" at this point in his career. He's 30 years old and has missed 17 of his last 32 games.

Santonio Holmes, who missed two straight practices before Sunday, might have done more jogging for trainers on the field than he did running in the game.

The New York Jets' medical staff cleared the wide receiver and he was active, but took part in just three first-half plays before appearing to sit out the rest of the 23-3 loss to the Dolphins.

“It was coach’s decision,” Holmes said. “(I had) limited plays coming off an injury. We wanted to monitor that and make sure everything is OK for the rest of the season.”

Fantasy Impact:

HC Rex Ryan said Monday that the team shut down Holmes because they didn't see the burst they normally do and didn't want him to suffer a setback. He didn't practice leading up to the game, but was activated before the game.
