Schwartz: Maurice Morris has "answered the bell" in the past
Thursday, October 20, 2011, 2:08pm
"Maurice has answered the bell anytime that it's rung for him," Schwartz said. "He's been a very productive runner for us and we know that he'll do well if he plays on Sunday and Keiland has shown some really nice things. A little bit more short-yardage and goal line and things like that, but that doesn't mean that's the only thing he can do.
"He played a lot of third down back for the Redskins last year. He's done some really nice things for us and, no matter who we're handing the ball to, we expect them to gain yards and be able to make explosive plays for us."
Morris is the guy to own in the Lions' backfield if Best can't play. Williams will rotate in, but we expect Morris to lead the team in touches while Best is sidelined. He's not anywhere as explosive as Best, but he might be a better between-the-tackles runner.
Ronnie Brown trade nullified due to failed Jerome Harrison physical
Wednesday, October 19, 2011, 8:01pm
ESPN reported that the Lions' trade of Jerome Harrison and a 2013 draft pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for Brown has been voided because of a health issue surrounding Harrison. The Lions confirmed only that the deal fell through.
Asked his feelings on the deal falling apart, Brown said via text message, "Lost for words."
This will have a big impact on waiver wires across the country, as Maurice Morris becomes the obvious pickup for owners trying to account for Jahvid Best's concussion situation. It seems likely that Best misses Week 7, and we see Morris as the lead back with Keiland Williams rotating in and getting some third down work. Harrison probably won't be a factor given the way he fell out of favor with the Lions this season. James Davis has been added to the Lions' practice squad. Back in Philly, Brown re-joins an Eagles backfield as the RB3 behind LeSean McCoy and Dion Lewis.
Lions trade for RB Ronnie Brown
Tuesday, October 18, 2011, 4:44pm
With Jahvid Best suffering from a concussion, and the Lions generally weak between the tackles, Ronnie Brown should fill the need of early down runner, and possibly more if Jahvid Best misses significant time (he very well may not). It remains to be seen exactly how Brown will platoon with Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams, but we doubt he is handed the keys in his first week with the team.
Lions RB Best suffers concussion
Monday, October 17, 2011, 10:36am
Jahvid Best sustained a concussion, his second of the year.
The Lions did confirm that Best was concussed.
Best had a run of concussion-related issues during his junior season at Cal, as well, so the team will proceed with caution.
Maurice Morris took over for Best and gained 20 yards on five carries and would probably be heavily involved in the running game going forward if Best misses time. Keiland Williams and Jerome Harrison are other RBs on the roster. We'll continue to keep you posted as the week goes on.
Lions Replenish Backfield

Harrison will probably emerge as the RB2 on the Eagles at some point. A position Mike Bell held, but was rarely used. The Birds should feel pretty good about giving Harrison carries as the season goes forward to ease the workload on McCoy, who is still playing with a fractured rib. The Eagles apparently did not feel good about giving Bell carries. McCoy is still the unquestioned RB1, though.

The Eagles swapped backup running backs with the Cleveland Browns, exchanging Mike Bell for Jerome Harrison. Bell really wasn’t a very good fit for the Eagles’ offense, being strictly a between-the-tackles runner. He wasn’t much of a pass-catcher. The 5-9, 208-pound Harrison is a better fit. He’s got speed to run outside. He is a decent receiver. But he’s coming from a totally different offensive system, which means he probably won’t be able to help the Eagles right away.
Browns & Eagles Trade RBs
Wednesday, October 13, 2010, 3:59pm
While certainly an interesting trade, neither back sees a huge jump in fantasy stock. Harrison is a clear backup to LeSean McCoy, but gives the Eagles better pass catching skills out of the backfield. Mike Bell wasn't doing much of anything in Philly, and now will battle with James Davis for carries behind Peyton Hillis.

Jake Delhomme (high right ankle) is healthy enough to be the backup quarterback, but Seneca Wallace will start again for the Browns. The Browns’ passing game has struggled with Wallace, going the last 21 minutes of last week’s game without a completion. RB Peyton Hillis, the lone bright spot on offense for Cleveland with a touchdown in all four games, will start despite a thigh bruise. There is a chance that Jerome Harrison could get more carries.
Browns RB Hillis listed as questionable
Friday, October 8, 2010, 4:53pm
Hillis' injury is starting to become a concern. We read yesterday where he was sure to play, but the questionable tag makes you wonder. The good news is the Browns are a 1 p.m. game. If Hillis can't go, Jerome Harrison would be back in the spotlight as the starter. Hillis owners may want to pick him up for insurance, or make sure you have a plan B.
