Vince Young likely QB2 in Green Bay
Saturday, August 24, 2013, 7:20pm
Mike McCarthy might find it impossible to pass on Vince Young’s talent when it comes time for the Green Bay Packers coach to pick his No. 2 quarterback, even given Young’s limited knowledge of the offense.
Working from a limited play list against the Seattle Seahawks on Friday night, Young took a big step toward beating out Graham Harrell for the No. 2 quarterback job in the Packers’17-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks at Lambeau Field.
Whatever his shortcomings as a pure passer, the 30-year old Young demonstrated the athleticism that can turn a bad play into a good one, and probably made himself the front-runner to back up Aaron Rodgers. In his two series, Young ran for 39 yards and put up a touchdown and 130.7 passer rating.
Packers sign Vince Young

ESPN's Ed Werder was the first to report of the imminent signing.
Rapoport reported that the Packers have a quarterback meeting Monday night and Young plans to attend.
The signal-caller makes his NFL return after a one-year hiatus. He was cut by the Buffalo Bills last summer after he somehow managed to lose the backup quarterback job to Tyler Thigpen. Young has had additional stops with the Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans.

Matt Flynn is almost certain to leave the Packers as a free agent this offseason for a team with which he’ll have a chance to compete for the starting job, so Graham Harrell will be in the running for the Packers’ backup job next season.
Dynasty owners take note -- Flynn will likely be the starter somewhere other than Green Bay in 2012.

Beat goes on for QB Aaron Rodgers
Saturday, August 27, 2011, 7:53am
Quarterback Graham Harrell led Green Bay to 11 points in the final 35 seconds, rallying the defending Super Bowl champs to a 24-21 victory over Indianapolis on Friday night.
Harrell threw an 11-yard TD pass to Ryan Taylor with 35 seconds left, then hooked up with Taylor again on the 2-point conversion to make it 21-21.
Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers was in midseason form, going 19 of 23 for 204 yards with one TD to give Green Bay a 10-0 second-quarter lead.
Rodgers has lit it up in the preseason, much like he did last year. Although Michael Vick goes into the season as the number one fantasy quarterback, Rodgers is fully capable of beating him out for that spot.
QB Aaron Rodgers as sharp as ever

Rodgers played into the second quarter, completing 9 of 12 passes for 97 yards and the touchdown. Matt Flynn took over for Rodgers and led the Packers to another touchdown before halftime, a 2-yard run by rookie Alex Green.
But Flynn threw a 97-yard touchdown to Chastin West on the first play of the fourth quarter, putting the Packers back ahead 21-20. Third-stringer Graham Harrell threw a 6-yard touchdown to Kerry Taylor in the fourth quarter.
The big story from this game is the injury to Arizona rookie running back Ryan Williams. Rodgers and Jennings again showed why they are two of the best players to have at their respective positions.
Pack's TE Jermichael Finley ready to be a stud
Monday, August 1, 2011, 10:22pm
Tight end Jermichael Finley stepped in front of reporters and announced that if he makes it through this season without missing a game he would "change the tight end position."
"I guarantee it," he said.
Finley can be part wide receiver, part tight end and All-World at one of the game's most important positions.
During Sunday's 7-on-7 drill, Finley did the improbable and caught two passes at once -- one with each hand.
He circled to the right flat for a sideline pass when, suddenly, a second ball appeared on his radar. Apparently, quarterbacks Matt Flynn and Graham Harrell got their signals crossed, and both aimed at Finley at the same time.
No problem. He simply stabbed one pass with his right hand, one with the left, then continued downfield as if nothing extraordinary occurred. The play went largely unnoticed by fans, but those who saw it looked at each other as if to say, "Naaaaahhhh I didn't just see that ... did I?"
You did. Welcome to Jermichael Finley's world where everything is possible.
Tight end should be a deep position this year, but we all thought that last season before injuries really made it slim pickins. Still, guys like Finley, Antonio Gates, Jason Witten and Dallas Clark are worth early picks, especially if you feel you missed out at WR. We currently have Finley rated third at TE, with a guy like Zach Miller at number-10, so there will be talent whenever you decide it's time to go that direction.
